Non-concerted evolution in ribosomal ITS2 sequence in Cynoglossus zanzibarensis (Pleuronectiformes: Cynoglossidae)

open access: yesBiochemical Systematics and Ecology, 2016
The nuclear ribosomal RNA genes (nrDNA) include three rRNA genes (18S, 5.8S, and 28S) and two internal transcribed spacers (ITS1 and ITS2). The lack of variability in nrDNA has been explained as the result of concerted evolution.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Cynoglossus zanzibarensis (Pleuronectiformes: Cynoglossidae)

Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2014
Cynoglossus zanzibarensis (Cynoglossidae, Soleoidei) is characterized by both eyes on the left side of the body. Here we report the mitogenome of this tonguesole for the first time, which is 16,569 bp in length, with gene order reorganized. The tRNA-Gln gene is translocated from the light strand (L-strand) to the heavy strand (H-strand), accompanied by

The complete mitochondrial genome of Cynoglossus puncticeps (Pleuronectiformes: Cynoglossidae)

Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2014
Cynoglossus puncticeps (Soleoidei Cynoglossidae) is characterized by both eyes on the left side of the body. Here we report the mitogenome of this tonguesole for the first time, which is 17,142 bp in length, and the gene order has been reorganized.

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence ofCynoglossus sinicus(Pleuronectiformes: Cynoglossidae)

Mitochondrial DNA, 2014
Cynoglossidae (tongue soles) mitogenomes have been found to be translocated in their control region and a tRNA gene inversed, but no gene rearrangement in Soleidae, the closest family to Cynoglossidae, has been detected. In order to explore whether or not mitogenomes of tongue soles bear other gene-rearrangement types, we determined another tongue sole

Gene rearrangements in the mitochondrial genome of Cynoglossus bilineatus (Pleuronectiformes: Cynoglossidae)

Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2014
Cynoglossus bilineatus (Cynoglossidae, Soleoidei) is characterized by both eyes on the left side of the body and with a rounded snout and a short rostral hook. Here we first report the mitogenome of this tongue sole, which is 16,454 bp in length, and gene rearrangements have been observed.

Skeletal development of the chondrocranium in the tongue sole Cynoglossus semilaevis (Pleuronectiformes: Cynoglossidae)

Journal of Fish Biology, 2019
This study provides a comprehensive description of chondrocranial development before, during and after larval metamorphosis in the tongue sole Cynoglossus semilaevis, a commercially valuable flatfish in China. Samples were collected at regular intervals ranging from 1 to 23 days post hatching (dph).

Larval development of Symphurus atramentatus (Cynoglossidae: Pleuronectiformes) from the Gulf of California

Zootaxa, 2005
Symphurus atramentatus is described from larval to juvenile stages based on 30 specimens from the Gulf of California. Eleven larvae (preflexion, flexion, and postflexion) and three juveniles were cleared and stained to obtain the number of proximal dorsal-fin pterygiophores in each of the anterior first five interneural spaces and the number of hypural

New Western Indian Ocean Tonguefish (Pleuronectiformes: Cynoglossidae, Symphurus)

Copeia, 2006
Abstract Symphurus monostigmus, described on the basis of two males (48.8 and 54.6 mm SL) collected on the inner continental shelf at 65–110 m off the coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, is distinguished from congeners by the following combination of characters: an irregular, conspicuous dark spot overlying the anteroventral ocular-side body cavity ...
