Background We have shown previously that low‐density lipoprotein (LDL) can be oxidized in the lysosomes of macrophages, that this oxidation can be inhibited by cysteamine, an antioxidant that accumulates in lysosomes, and that this drug decreases ...

Mechanisms for the Cytotoxicity of Cysteamine [PDF]
The major aim of this study was to quantitatively assess the contribution of H2O2 generation to the cytotoxicity induced by cysteamine. Cysteamine produces H2O2 at levels that correlate with its toxicity between 23 and 160 microM. A maximum of 6.9 microM H2O2 is generated by 625 microM cysteamine.

Effects of Coated Cysteamine on Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in Weaned Pigs
This study aimed to explore the effects of dietary coated cysteamine on oxidative stress and inflammation in diquat-induced weaning pigs. Twenty-four pigs were randomly assigned to three dietary groups with eight replicates: the control (fed base diet ...

Effect of cysteamine and 13-cis-retinoic acid on bovine in vitro embryo production [PDF]
One of the main factors decreasing the success of an in vitro embryo production is oxidative stress-mediated reactive oxygen species resulting in cellular damages.

Improved method for the preparation of malonyl coenzyme A
Malonyl coenzyme A is synthesized by transacylating S-malonyl-N-decanoyl cysteamine with coenzyme A. A simplified procedure for the preparation of S-malonyl-N-decanoyl cysteamine, using cysteamine as starting material, is described.

Cysteamine-mediated clearance of antibiotic-resistant pathogens in human cystic fibrosis macrophages. [PDF]
Members of the Burkholderia cepacia complex are virulent, multi-drug resistant pathogens that survive and replicate intracellularly in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). We have discovered that B. cenocepacia cannot be cleared from CF macrophages due to
