The use of epostane in an attempt to reproduce cystic endometrial hyperplasia in the bitch.
Veterinary research communications, 2003The aetiology and pathogenesis of spontaneous cystic endometrial hyperplasia (CEH) in the bitch is not yet completely understood. Recent research based on the expression of uterine sex hormone receptors in spontaneous cases of CEH suggested that a temporary progesterone deficiency during late oestrus-early metoestrus may be responsible for the onset of

Fresh samples of uterine wall and peripheral plasma were obtained from 13 bitches of different breeds when they were treated for cystic endometrial hyperplasia/pyometra by ovariohysterectomy. The plasma samples were assayed for progesterone and 17β‐oestradiol, and the tissue samples were examined histopathologically and for the presence of oestrogen ...

Estrogen-alpha receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR) were examined immunohistochemically in uteri of normal bitches, in uteri of bitches with cystic endometrial hyperplasia-mucometra (CEH-M) and in uteri of bitches with endometritis-pyometra (E-P), under exogenous progesterone treatment.

The uteri of 26 clinically healthy bitches and 42 bitches with a clinical suspicion of pyometra were examined histologically using a computerized image analysis system. Histologic lesions were characterised mainly by thickening or atrophy of the endometrium and by varying degrees of cystic changes of the glands.

Cystic endometrial hyperplasia (CEH) was induced in the left uterine horns of 14 mature ovariectomised greyhound bitches with an intra-luminal silk suture (uterine irritant) and treatment with estradiol benzoate and megestrol acetate (to simulate stages of a normal canine estrous cycle). Right uterine horns served as suture-free controls.

TORSION of the uterus is rare in the bitch ([Stone and others 1993][1], [Darvelid and Linde-Forsberg 1994][2]). It is most frequently associated with late pregnancy and is an uncommon cause of canine dystocia ([Geigenmuller 1965][3], [Brown 1974][4], [Shull and others 1978][5], [Stone and ...
