Interstitial cystitis is a complex inflammatory condition of the bladder. The pathophysiology of interstitial cystitis is incompletely understood, although altered epithelial permeability, mast cell activation and sensory afferent nerve upregulation play critical roles.

Summary— Twenty histologically proven cases of interstitial cystitis were investigated in an attempt to find evidence of a possible autoimmune mechanism in its aetiology. HLA tissue typing was performed, autoantibody profiles were obtained, and a questionnaire of the patients' past history completed, especially ...

A case of emphysematous cystitis in a diabetic female is described. Its presentation is non-specific and the prognosis depends on then degree of aggressiveness at presentation. Early diagnosis and aggressive medical and surgical management of gas-forming organisms are vital.

Gangrenous cystitis is an extremely rare condition. During the last 70 years, only 30 cases have been reported in the literature. We report a case of gangrenous cystitis in a 70-year-old woman presented with symptoms of acute abdomen. Main causative factor was overdistension of the bladder due to catheter obstruction.

We present 12 cases of cystitis glandularis which fall into two distinct groups, one characterized by hematuria and the other by urinary tract infection. We can produce no clinical evidence that this disease is premalignant, but emphasize the necessity of histology to exclude malignancy since, macroscopically, the condition is indistinguishable from ...

Abstract Xanthogranulomatous cystitis (XC) is a rare benign chronic inflammatory disease of unknown etiology. Herein we report a case of a 70‐year‐old woman who presented with frequent, postmicturition pain and lower abdominal discomfort. Cystoscopy revealed a mass at the dome of the bladder near the left wall.

Interstitial cystitis (IC) is a multifactorial syndrome with symptoms of pelvic or perineal pain, urinary frequency and urgency. The etiologies are unknown, but several theories have been proposed. Diagnosis is often delayed because most of the conventional evaluation is normal. Pelvic examination is normal except for bladder tenderness.

AbstractThe cytologic finding of glandular cells in a urine specimen is unusual. The differential diagnosis ranges from benign conditions such as cystitis glandularis to adenocarcinoma. Glandular cells of cystitis glandularis with intestinal metaplasia have a bland cytologic appearance. If detected in a urine cytology specimen colonic metaplasia can be
