Molecular marker-based species identification of carnivorous freshwater catfish (Wallago attu) from river Chenab, Pakistan

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied and Experimental Biology
DNA barcoding, one of several procedures for identification of organisms, is an effective way to identify fish species. DNA-based identification is reliable and accurate to characterize an organism at different stages of its life cycle. Several reference

Novel Noninvasive Broad‐Spectrum Infrared Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis by Modulating T‐Cell Relocation

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
A novel graphene‐based broad‐spectrum infrared (BSIR) device is developed for the noninvasive treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). BSIR irradiation effectively alleviates colonic inflammation and accelerates mucosal recovery by inducing the systemic relocation of T lymphocytes to the spleen.

Systemic aging fuels heart failure: Molecular mechanisms and therapeutic avenues

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1059-1080, April 2025.
Abstract Systemic aging influences various physiological processes and contributes to structural and functional decline in cardiac tissue. These alterations include an increased incidence of left ventricular hypertrophy, a decline in left ventricular diastolic function, left atrial dilation, atrial fibrillation, myocardial fibrosis and cardiac ...

The study of aa3-type cytochrome c oxidase in Rhodobacter sphaeroides

open access: yes, 2009
Cytochrome c oxidase is the final electron acceptor in the respiratory chain and catalyzes the highly exergonic oxygen reduction reaction to water and forms a transmembrane electrochemical proton gradient.

New colorimetic methods for the estimation of cytochrome c oxidase and of cytochrome c-cyto-chrome oxidase system

open access: yes, 1958
New colorimetric methods for the estimation of the activities of cytochrome c oxidase and of cytochrome c-cytochrome oxidase system in tissue homogenates are described, using neotetrazolium chloride in the presence of p-phenylenediamine with or without ...

Studies on critical proton-pathway residues in the aa3-type cytochrome c oxidase from Rhodobacter sphaeroides

open access: yes, 2009
Aerobic organisms derive energy needed to sustain life from foodstuffs through the process of cellular respiration. Respiration is performed by a series of soluble and multi-subunit membrane proteins that form the ‘electron-transport chain’, found in the

A New Vista of Opportunity in Diabetes Management: Natural Product‐Based β‐cell Preservation

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Preserving functional β‐cells via natural products offers promising strategy for diabetes treatment. ABSTRACT A defining characteristic of diabetes is β‐cell failure, in which β‐cells cannot modulate insulin secretion to compensate for escalating insulin resistance, pushing forward disease development.

Studies of proton pumping mechanism in BA3 type cytochrome oxidase of thermus thermophilus and CBB3 type cytochrome oxidase of vibrio cholerae

open access: yes, 2010
Oxygen reductase members of the heme-copper oxidoreductase superfamily are redox-driven proton pumps which couple the free energy liberated from the reduction of O2 to the translocation of protons across the membrane.

Aloe vera in Food Preservation: Harnessing Bioactive Constituents for Clean‐Label Innovation and Safety Assurance

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Aloe vera‐derived biopolymers and nanoformulations enhance antimicrobial, antioxidant, and barrier functions in clean‐label edible coatings and films, whereas safety‐critical anthraquinone thresholds and regulatory constraints shape their translational potential.
