Cytoskeleton and nucleoskeleton involvement in processes of cytomixis in plants

Cell Biology International, 2017
AbstractCytomixis is a form of cell‐to‐cell nuclear migration that involves the interaction of dynamic cytoskeletal components with the nucleus through signalling systems and linker complexes. In cytomixis two known mechanisms can be involved: actomyosin and/or microtubules and their associated motors.

Analysis of cytomixis in tobacco microsporocytes with confocal laser scanning microscopy

Protoplasma, 2016
Confocal laser scanning microscopy for the first time is used to examine the structure of the tobacco microsporocytes involved in the intercellular migration of nuclei (cytomixis). As is observed, the cytomictic channels are distributed over the surface of tobacco microsporocytes in a non-random manner and their number depends on the meiotic stage ...

Cytomixis in Lolium perenne

Chromosoma, 1976
Cytomixis is a spontaneous process occurring through the formation of cytoplasmic bridges between adjacent pollen mother cells. This phenomenon was observed in the pollen mother cells of 3 genotypes of Lolium perenne which had been subjected to directional selection for productivity of green material.

A rise of ploidy level influences the rate of cytomixis in tobacco male meiosis

Protoplasma, 2015
The effect of plant ploidy level on the rate of cytomixis in microsporogenesis has been analyzed with the help of a unique model, the collection of tobacco plants of different ploidies (2n = 2x = 24, 4x = 48, 6x = 72, and 8x = 96). As has been shown, the rate of cytomixis proportionally increases in 6x and 8x cytotypes, being rather similar in 2x and ...

Distribution of telomeres in the tobacco meiotic nuclei during cytomixis

Cell Biology International, 2015
AbstractCytomixis is the migration of nuclei from one cell to another in higher plants, most frequently observable during microsporogenesis, which has a potential evolutionary significance. Currently, a major challenge is to label the chromatin migrating between cells to clarify its further fate.

Cytomixis in Agropyron cristatum

Genome, 1987
An Agropyron cristatum plant (CB-9-41), crested wheat grass, and its vegetative clones have been identified that contain pollen mother cells that have a gain or a loss in chromatin (DNA). CB-9-41 was identified during the course of an experiment to determine the effectiveness of colchicine on the doubling of the chromosome complement.

An ultrastructural study of cytomixis in tobacco pollen mother cells

Protoplasma, 2011
Intercellular chromatin migration (cytomixis) in the pollen mother cells of two tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) lines was analyzed by electron microscopy during the first meiotic prophase. The maximal manifestation of cytomixis was observed in the pachytene.

Cytological Techniques to Study Cytomixis in Plant Male Meiosis

2019
In this chapter we describe cytological techniques to study cytomixis, a process of nuclear migration between plant cells, in squashed plant male meiocytes of Nicotiana tabacum and Secale cereale. To perform immunostaining or fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) on meiotic cells involved in cytomixis common protocols are modified.

How cytomixis can form unreduced gametes in tobacco

Plant Systematics and Evolution, 2014
Cytomixis is migration of the nuclei between cells, widespread in various higher plant species. Most frequently, cytomixis takes place in microsporogenesis and is assumed to be a possible cause of unreduced gamete generation. In the present work the cytological mechanisms leading to a change in the cell chromosome number via cytomixis in tobacco ...

Nature, significance, and cytological consequences of cytomixis

Cytology and Genetics, 2012
Cytomixis is a widespread natural process of intercellular interaction, which is common for vegetative and generative tissues in both normal and pathological conditions. The origin, significance, and genetic control of cytomixis still remain partially unclear.
