Impact of Complete Cytoreduction Leaving No Gross Residual Disease Associated with Radical Cytoreductive Surgical Procedures on Survival in Advanced Ovarian Cancer

open access: closedAnnals of Surgical Oncology, 2012
To analyze the impact of radical cytoreductive surgery-as part of primary tumor debulking-on the amount of residual tumor and survival in patients with advanced ovarian cancer and to evaluate the prognostic significance of no gross residual disease (RD) after surgery.Medical records of 203 patients with International Federation of Gynecology and ...

The incidence of major complications after the performance of extensive upper abdominal surgical procedures during primary cytoreduction of advanced ovarian, tubal, and peritoneal carcinomas

open access: closedGynecologic Oncology, 2010
To assess the morbidity and mortality associated with extensive upper abdominal surgery (EUAS) performed during primary cytoreduction for advanced ovarian carcinoma. We identified all patients who underwent EUAS during primary cytoreduction for advanced ovarian, tubal, or peritoneal cancer at our institution from 1/01 to 12/06.

Huge pseudomyxoma peritonei: Surgical strategies and procedures to employ to optimize the rate of complete cytoreductive surgery

European Journal of Surgical Oncology (EJSO), 2016
Complete cytoreductive surgery (CCRS) plus Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) is the best-known treatment for pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP). In 30% of the cases, PMP realize a widespread involvement of the peritoneal cavity. In these extreme situations, we developed, devoted strategies to optimize the feasibility and safety of CCRS.

Comparison of MRI and CT for Predicting the Peritoneal Cancer Index (PCI) Preoperatively in Patients Being Considered for Cytoreductive Surgical Procedures

Annals of Surgical Oncology, 2014
To compare the accuracy of MRI and CT for predicting the Peritoneal Cancer Index (PCI) preoperatively compared with the PCI tabulated at surgery.Twenty-two patients underwent preoperative MRI and CT scanning followed by cytoreductive surgery for appendiceal (n = 17) and ovarian (n = 5) cancer.

Ramirez's Abdominoplasty Technique Combined With Intraperitoneal Chemohyperthermia After Surgical Cytoreductive Procedures for the Treatment of Advanced Intraperitoneal Cancer in Patients With Ventral Hernia

Annals of Plastic Surgery, 2010
Patients affected by peritoneal carcinomatosis are frequently submitted to repeated laparotomies to reduce intra-abdominal bulky lesions and to enhance the systemic chemotherapeutic action. Aim of our study is to evaluate feasibility and results of cytoreductive surgery and intraperitoneal chemohypertermic (IPCH) perfusion combined with Ramirez's ...
