Experimental evidence that immune trypanolysis using the LiTat 1.3 and LiTat 1.5 variant antigen types is not specific to Trypanosoma brucei gambiense in pigs

open access: yesParasite, 2022
In the context of the human African trypanosomiasis elimination process, reliable and accurate diagnostic tools are crucial for exploring the role of a potential animal reservoir of Trypanosoma brucei gambiense.

Multiplexed Detection of Respiratory Viruses Using Surface Plasmon Resonance Spectroscopy With Ultrathin Carbon Nanomembranes

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrathin azide‐functionalized carbon nanomembrane (N3‐CNM) provides a versatile biointerface for antibody immobilization on gold SPR sensors. Integrated with a multichannel SPR platform, the functionalized surface enables label‐free, simultaneous detection of SARS‐CoV‐2, Influenza A, and RSV antigens, demonstrating the potential of CNM‐based ...

A Noninvasive Approach to Study Localized Forces in 3D Epithelia

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Epithelial morphogenesis depends on dynamic mechanical coupling between adhesion complexes and the cytoskeleton, yet its regulation in polarized 3D tissues remains elusive. We developed a noninvasive strategy using cell‐like elastic microbeads to quantify local forces in intact epithelia.

An Anti‐Amyloidogenic Approach to Specifically Block Memory Consolidation in Mice for Therapeutic Intervention

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Functional amyloid conversion of the translation regulator CPEB3 is essential for long‐term memory persistence. This study demonstrates that targeting this molecular switch with the anti‐amyloidogenic peptide QBP1 selectively blocks CPEB3 fibrillation without disrupting phase separation.

A Tentative Theory of Change to Evaluate Jurisdictional Approaches to Reduced Deforestation

open access: yesFrontiers in Forests and Global Change, 2020
Sub-national jurisdictions are promoted as strategic levels of governance for achieving reduced deforestation objectives. Jurisdictional approaches (JA) emerged as government-led, holistic approaches to forest and land use management across one or more ...

Heterozygous Variants in LRP1 Cause a Neurodevelopmental Disorder With Congenital Heart Defects

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT LRP1 encodes the low‐density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor‐related protein 1 (LRP1), a transmembrane protein involved in endocytosis and activation of multiple signaling pathways. LRP1 variants have been implicated in the pathogenesis of congenital heart defects (CHD), Alzheimer's disease, and neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD).

Major differences in the dynamics of haematological and biochemical variables between trypanotolerant and susceptible cattle during Trypanosoma congolense infection

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research
Background Animal African Trypanosomosis, caused by protozoan blood parasites mainly transmitted by Glossina, is a threat to livestock health in Africa. Whilst African zebu and European taurine suffer from trypanosomosis, West African taurine, such as N ...

How Reliable is the MODIS Land Cover Product for Crop Mapping Sub-Saharan Agricultural Landscapes?

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2014
Accurate cropland maps at the global and local scales are crucial for scientists, government and nongovernment agencies, farmers and other stakeholders, particularly in food-insecure regions, such as Sub-Saharan Africa.
