Conic D-branes [PDF]

open access: yesProgress of Theoretical and Experimental Physics, 2015
The shape of D-branes is of fundamental interest in string theory. We find that generically D-branes in trivial spacetime can form a conic shape under external uniform forces. Surprisingly, the apex angle is found to be unique, once the spatial dimensions of the cone is given. In particular it is universal irrespective of the external forces.

D-Branes, Derived Categories, and Grothendieck Groups

open access: yes, 1999
In this paper we describe how Grothendieck groups of coherent sheaves and locally free sheaves can be used to describe type II D-branes, in the case that all D-branes are wrapped on complex varieties and all connections are holomorphic.

On the shape of a D-brane bound state and its topology change [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
As is well known, coordinates of D-branes are described by NxN matrices. From generic non-commuting matrices, it is difficult to extract physics, for example, the shape of the distribution of positions of D-branes. To overcome this problem, we generalize

Optimal model‐based design of experiments for parameter precision: Supercritical extraction case

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigates the process of chamomile oil extraction from flowers. A parameter‐distributed model consisting of a set of partial differential equations is used to describe the governing mass transfer phenomena in a cylindrical packed bed with solid chamomile particles under supercritical conditions using carbon dioxide as a solvent ...

Non-supersymmetric D-branes with vanishing cylinder amplitudes in asymmetric orbifolds

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2017
We study the type II string vacua with chiral space-time SUSY constructed as asymmetric orbifolds of torus and K3 compactifications. Despite the fact that all the D-branes are non-BPS in any chiral SUSY vacua, we show that the relevant non-geometric ...

Gauge fields and D-branes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geometry and Physics, 1998
We prove that self-dual gauge fields in type I superstring theory are equivalent to configurations of Dirichlet 5-branes, by showing that the world-sheet theory of a Dirichlet 1-brane moving in a background of 5-branes includes an ``ADHM sigma model.'' This provides an explicit construction of the equivalent self-dual gauge field.

Geometry of N=1 Dualities in Four Dimensions [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We discuss how N=1 dualities in four dimensions are geometrically realized by wrapping D-branes about 3-cycles of Calabi-Yau threefolds. In this setup the N=1 dualities for SU, SO and USp gauge groups with fundamental fields get mapped to statements ...

Functional Bread From Bambara Groundnut and Orange Peel Attenuates Hyperglycemia and Oxidative Stress in a High‐Fat Diet/Streptozotocin‐Induced Type 2 Diabetes Rat Model

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
This study evaluated Bambara groundnut–wheat composite bread fortified with orange peel in diabetic rats. Diets significantly lowered blood glucose, inhibited α‐glucosidase and α‐amylase, and boosted antioxidant enzymes compared to controls. Results emphasize BG‐based functional foods' potential to help manage type 2 diabetes through regulation of ...

Non-Abelian black holes in string theory

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2017
We study a family of 5-dimensional non-Abelian black holes that can be obtained by adding an instanton field to the well-known D1D5W Abelian black holes. Naively, the non-Abelian fields seem to contribute to the black-hole entropy but not to the mass due

KKLT without AdS

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2020
According to the KKLT scenario, metastable dS vacua are formed as a result of uplifting of supersymmetric AdS vacua by D 3 ¯ $$ \overline{D3} $$ branes.
