[13a] d-Glucaric and some related acids
1966Publisher Summary This chapter reveals that the D-glucarie (saccharic) acid, when isolated as the potassium acid salt following the oxidation of D-glucose with nitric acid, is contaminated with small amounts of potassium acid oxalate and potassium acid D-tartrate.

Urinary excretion of D‐glucaric acid by severely burned patients
Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 1979The 24‐hr excretion of urinary D‐glucaric acid (VGA) has been measured in 5 seriously burned adults and compared with 6 healthy adults. In the burn patients mean VGA was 14.4 ± 5.4 (±SD) µmoles/day and 28.7 ± 6.5 pmoleslday in controls (p < 0.002). In a 6‐year‐old female, VGA was also found to be very low.

Nutrition Research, 1996
Abstract The beneficial properties of different vitamins, minerals, and other micronutrients have been studied for quite some time. But only recently has the potential usefulness of d -glucaric acid and its derivatives in disease prevention been demonstrated. d -Glucaric acid is an end product of the d -glucuronic acid pathway in mammals.

Biosynthesis of D-glucaric acid in needles of Larix decidua
Zeitschrift für Pflanzenphysiologie, 1972Summary 14C-D-Glucuronic acid is readily converted to D-glucaric acid in young needles of Larix decidua, while the rate of conversion is very low in older needles. The data indicate that glucuronic acid is the precursor of glucaric acid. The decline of glucarate formation during senescence is not caused by a lack of precursor.

Potential use of d-glucaric acid derivatives in cancer prevention
Cancer Letters, 1990There is now growing evidence from animal models for the possible control of different stages of the carcinogenic process by the beta-glucuronidase inhibitor D-glucaro-1,4-lactone and its precursors such as D-glucaric acid salts, D-glucarates. D-Glucaric acid is a natural, non-toxic compound produced in small amounts by mammals, including humans.

Conformations of the d-glucarolactones and d-glucaric acid in solution
Carbohydrate Research, 1982Abstract The conformations of d -glucaric acid ( 1 ), d -glucaro-1,4-lactone ( 2 ), d -glucaro-6,3-lactone ( 3 ), and d -glucaro-1,4:6,3-dilactone ( 4 ) in solution were investigated by 1 H-n.m.r. and 13 C-p.F.t., n.m.r. spectroscopy. The solvents used were deuterium oxide, methanol- d 4 , and dimethyl sulfoxide- d 6 , and praseodymium ...

Redox and complexation chemistry of the CrVI/CrV-d-glucaric acid system
Dalton Transactions, 2014When an excess of uronic acid over Cr(VI) is used, the oxidation of D-glucaric acid (Glucar) by Cr(VI) yields D-arabinaric acid, CO2 and Cr(III)-Glucar complex as final redox products. The redox reaction involves the formation of intermediate Cr(IV) and Cr(V) species. The reaction rate increases with [H(+)] and [substrate].

Facile nitroxide-mediated oxidations of d-glucose to d-glucaric acid
Carbohydrate Research, 2001The oxidation of D-(+)-glucose to D-glucaric acid using the TEMPO-like nitroxide oxidation catalyst, 4-acetamido-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxy (4-acetamido-TEMPO) was carried out using several oxidizing agents and co-catalyst. The pH and temperature of the reactions were closely monitored to decrease degradations during the oxidation, and ...

Biosynthesis of d-glucaric acid in mammals: a free-radical mechanism?
Carbohydrate Research, 1986In the presence of iron salts and hydrogen peroxide, D-glucuronic acid was converted into D-glucaric acid. The reaction was strongly inhibited by free-radical scavengers and is ascribed to the action of the hydroxyl radical. The formation of D-glucarate was dependent upon pH and occurred in the presence of some iron-complexing agents. The first product
