Identification of the genes that contribute to lactate utilization in Helicobacter pylori. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Helicobacter pylori are Gram-negative, spiral-shaped microaerophilic bacteria etiologically related to gastric cancer. Lactate utilization has been implicated although no corresponding genes have been identified in the H. pylori genome.

Presentation_1_New Insights Into the Function of Flavohemoglobin in Mycobacterium tuberculosis: Role as a NADPH-Dependent Disulfide Reductase and D-Lactate-Dependent Mycothione Reductase.pdf

open access: yes, 2022
Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) produces an unconventional flavohemoglobin (MtbFHb) that carries a FAD-binding site similar to D-lactate dehydrogenases (D-LDH) and oxidizes D-lactate into pyruvate.

Molecular crowding defines a common origin for the Warburg effect in proliferating cells and the lactate threshold in muscle physiology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Aerobic glycolysis is a seemingly wasteful mode of ATP production that is seen both in rapidly proliferating mammalian cells and highly active contracting muscles, but whether there is a common origin for its presence in these widely different systems is

D-Lactate Production and Excretion in Diarrheic Calves [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, 2004
Abstract The origin of D-lactate, the most important acid contributing to metabolic acidosis in the diarrheic calf, is unknown. We hypothesized that because D-lactate is produced only by microbes, gastrointestinal fermentation is the source. The objective of this study was to determine whether D-lactate production occurs in the rumen,

Lactate-proton co-transport and its contribution to interstitial acidification during hypoxia in isolated rat spinal roots [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Exposure of nervous tissue to hypoxia results in interstitial acidification. There is evidence for concomitant decrease in extracellular pH to the increase in tissue lactate.

Amelioration of intestinal barrier function and reduction of blood lead level in adult women with recurrent spontaneous abortion by a novel product of dietary fiber mixture, Holofood

open access: yesJournal of Health, Population and Nutrition, 2023
Background The elevated circulating toxins secondary to the impairment of intestinal barrier integrity commonly elicit a chronic inflammatory response and finally contribute to multiple diseases.

The effects of 5 days β-alanine supplementation on the velocity and the percentage o2max at the lactate threshold [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Purpose: To assess the effect of 5 days β-alanine supplementation on the velocity and the percentage of O2max ¬¬ (%O2max) at the lactate threshold (Tlac) during treadmill running.

D-lactic Acidosis: Successful Suppression of D-lactate-Producing Lactobacillus by Probiotics. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Intestinal microbiota composition in children with short bowel syndrome (SBS) is an important factor influencing the clinical outcome. An increase of D-lactate-producing bacteria can lead to D-lactic acidosis, also referred to as D-lactate encephalopathy,

Microbiota-derived D-lactate alters macrophage inflammation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Obesity-induced inflammation is a factor involved in the risk and progression of type 2 diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. These diseases are associated with changes in gut microbiota composition and bacterial metabolites.

Oxidation of D-lactate and L-lactate by Neisseria meningitidis: purification and cloning of meningococcal D-lactate dehydrogenase [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1993
Neisseria meningitidis was found to contain at least two lactate-oxidizing enzymes. One of these was purified 460-fold from spheroplast membranes and found to be specific primarily for D-lactate, with low-affinity activity for L-lactate. The gene for this enzyme (dld) was cloned, and a dld mutant was constructed by insertional inactivation of the gene.
