Microwave emission by nonlinear crystals irradiated with a high-intensity, mode-locked laser [PDF]
We report on the experimental investigation of the efficiency of some nonlinear crystals to generate microwave (RF) radiation as a result of optical rectification (OR) when irradiated with intense pulse trains delivered by a mode-locked laser at $1064 ...

Piezo films with adjustable anisotropic strain for bending actuators with tunable bending profiles
We present a method to produce in-plane polarized piezo films with a freely adjustable ratio of the strains in orthogonal in-plane directions. They can be used in piezo bending actuators with a tunable curvature profile.

Imaging Mechanism of Piezoresponse Force Microscopy in Capacitor Structures [PDF]
The image formation mechanism in Piezoresponse Force Microscopy (PFM) of capacitor structures is analyzed. We demonstrate that the spatial resolution is a bilinear function of film and top electrode thicknesses, and derive the corresponding analytical expressions.

A new approach to all-optical detection and control of the coupling between electric and magnetic order on ultrafast timescales is achieved using time-resolved second harmonic generation (SHG) to study a ferroelectric (FE)/ferromagnet (FM) oxide ...

Solving the electrical control of magnetic coercive field paradox [PDF]
The ability to tune magnetic properties of solids via electric voltages instead of external magnetic fields is a physics curiosity of great scientific and technological importance.

Transverse Bending Mimicry of Longitudinal Piezoelectricity [PDF]
The origin of frequently observed ultrahigh electric-induced longitudinal strain, ranging from 1% to 26%, remains an open question. Recent evidence suggests that this phenomenon is linked to the bending deformation of samples, but the mechanisms driving this bending and the strong dependence of nominal strain on sample thickness have yet to be fully ...

Multi-point functions of weighted cubic maps
We study the geodesic two- and three-point functions of random weighted cubic maps, which are obtained by assigning random edge lengths to random cubic planar maps.

The aim of this paper consists in the determination of the piezoelectric transverse coefficient d31 of PbZrxTi1−xO3 (PZT) thin films integrated in dedicated multilayer silicon-based micromembranes exhibiting an initial buckled profile. An analytical model specific to this configuration was built and used for the calculation of d31 starting with the ...

Properties of piezoceramic materials in high electric field actuator applications
In this paper, we compare the performance of 8 PZT ceramics and one PMN-PT material for typical bending actuator applications. This includes the measurement of non-linear transverse charge coefficient at high electric field strength and related ...

Iterative phase retrieval for digital holography [PDF]
This paper provides a tutorial of iterative phase retrieval algorithms based on the Gerchberg-Saxton (GS) algorithm applied in digital holography. In addition, a novel GS-based algorithm that allows reconstruction of 3D samples is demonstrated. The GS-based algorithms recover complex-valued wavefront by wavefront back-and forth propagation between two ...
