Laser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.Low‐frequency Raman‐forbidden interlayer phonons in 2D materials are typically hidden by selection rules. Here, we demonstrate that plasmonic near‐field gradients can activate and detect these forbidden low‐frequency modes in a few‐layer MoS2 sample, unveiling a gradient‐driven mechanism for revealing hidden interlayer vibrations and breaking symmetry.
