Measuring the Mass–Radius Relation of White Dwarfs Using Wide Binaries

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Measuring the mass–radius relation of individual white dwarfs is an empirically challenging task that has been performed for only a few dozen stars. We measure the white dwarf mass–radius relation using the gravitational redshifts and radii of 135 white ...

Seismic Cartography of White-Dwarf Interiors From the Toulouse-Montréal Optimal-Design Approach

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2022
Probing internal properties of white-dwarf stars has been amongst the earliest objectives of asteroseismology, following the first discovery in the late 1960s of non-radial pulsations in these evolved compact stars.

The Stellar Space Distributions of dA and gK Stars [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1995
AbstractWe present a case study on the stellar space distribution of stars with MK spectral types B8 to A2 (dA) and gG8 to gK2 (gK) in a sky region of 25 square degrees, centred at the galactic coordinate l = 4° and b = +12°. Two hundred and forty-eight (248) stars with MK type of B8–A2 and gG8–gK2 were identified in this field.

Initial-Final Mass Relationship for Stars of Different Metallicities

open access: yes, 2008
Following Paczy\'{n}ski & Zi\'{o}lkowski (1968) and Han et al. (1994), we assume that the envelope of an asymptotic giant branch (AGB) or a first giant branch (FGB) star is lost when the binding energy of the envelope is equal to zero ($\Delta W=0$) and ...

A Gravitational Redshift Determination of the Mean Mass of White Dwarfs. DA Stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We measure apparent velocities (v_app) of the Halpha and Hbeta Balmer line cores for 449 non-binary thin disk normal DA white dwarfs (WDs) using optical spectra taken for the ESO SN Ia Progenitor surveY (SPY; Napiwotzki et al. 2001).

Carcinomas and Carcinoid Tumors of the Lungs and Bronchi in Children and Adolescents: The EXPeRT Recommendations

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Primary lung carcinomas and bronchial carcinoid tumors (BC) are very rare malignancies in childhood. While typical BC and mucoepidermoid carcinomas are mostly low‐grade, localized tumors with a more favorable prognosis than in adults, necessitating avoidance of overtreatment, adenocarcinomas of the lung are often diagnosed at advanced disease ...

A Detailed Model Atmosphere Analysis of Hot White Dwarfs in DESI DR1

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present a detailed model atmosphere analysis of hot white dwarfs in the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) Data Release 1. Our sample includes 19,321 unique targets with G _BP  −  G _RP ≤ 0.

Rare White dwarf stars with carbon atmospheres

open access: yes, 2007
White dwarfs represent the endpoint of stellar evolution for stars with initial masses between approximately 0.07 msun and 8-10 msun, where msun is the mass of the Sun (more massive stars end their life as either black holes or neutron stars). The theory

Results of the Childhood Cancer and Leukaemia Group's United Kingdom Relapsed Wilms Tumour Trial

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The United Kingdom relapsed Wilms tumour (UKW‐R) trial aimed to improve the historically low survival rates after relapse of Wilms tumour (WT) through a prospective national risk‐stratified protocol. The trial also evaluated efficacy and toxicity of high‐dose melphalan.

Zeros dos Polinômios Característicos dos Métodos BDF

open access: yesTrends in Computational and Applied Mathematics, 2007
O estudo da estabilidade de métodos numéricos possui um grande potencial em pesquisa. Como a análise da estabilidade está relacionada aos zeros do polinômio característico do método, é importante determinar o comportamento de tais zeros.
