Milk yield and mammary function in dairy cows milked four times daily

Journal of Dairy Research, 1990
SummaryGroups of lactating cows and heifers were milked four times daily in two diagonally opposed glands for 4 weeks, and the effects on milk yield studied relative to twice-daily milked glands as controls. Mammary enzyme activities, in vitro synthesis rates of milk constituents and histological scoring were determined in mammary biopsy samples ...

Milk yield and mammary function in goats during and after once-daily milking

Journal of Dairy Research, 1990
SummaryStarting in week 5 of lactation, goats were milked unilaterally once daily for 4 ½ weeks, then twice daily for 12 weeks and finally thrice daily for 2 weeks. The control gland was milked twice daily throughout. During less frequent milking, yield fell by 26%.

The effect of equal and unequal intervals in twice-daily milking on the milk yield of ewes

Journal of Dairy Research, 1967
SummaryThe effect of equal and unequal milking intervals (12 + 12, 10 + 14 and 8 + 16h) was investigated in milch ewes. The treatments were applied to 9 ewes using a double 3 × 3 Latin square. The daily production of milk and fat was unaffected by the changes in milking interval.

Effect of daily oxytocin injection on milk yield and lactation length in sheep

Small Ruminant Research, 2001
The effects of daily oxytocin (OT) (2 IU) injection (i.m.) on lactation performance of 25 Mehraban ewes were studied. Eight control ewes were injected with 1ml of saline. Eight ewes were injected with OT after weaning (POT), and nine ewes were injected with OT from day 15 of lactation (WOT). Total milk production for WOT ewes was 55.5 and 24.7% greater

Estimating daily yields of cows from different milking schemes

Livestock Production Science, 2000
Abstract A multiple regression model was used to derive equations for predicting 24 h milk, fat, and protein yields of dairy cows on either two-times or three-times-a-day milking under different testing schemes. New prediction equations were developed for 72 subclasses of days in milk, parity, and season of calving for each of 18 possible three-times-
