Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Time‐restricted feeding prior to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection reduces tissue CD4+ T cells with limited impact on bacterial clearance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) in mice increased liver fatty acid oxidation and decreased fatty acid biosynthesis. These alterations persisted when TRF was discontinued and the host was infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pre‐exposure to TRF did not alter tissue (lung and spleen) mycobacterial burden but significantly reduced CD3+ T cells in lungs

Estimating daily suspended sediment by intelligent and traditional models (Case Study: Kasalian and Rood Zard watersheds, Iran) [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Environmental Technology
Suspended sediment load is an indicator of erosion in watersheds. Therefore, accurately estimating the daily suspended sediment load (DSSL) is an important issue in river engineering. In this research, Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Genetic Expression

Consequences to flood management of using different probability distributions to estimate extreme rainfall [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The design of flood defences, such as pumping stations, takes into consideration the predicted return periods of extreme precipitation depths. Most commonly these are estimated by fitting the Generalised Extreme Value (GEV) or the Generalised Pareto (GP)

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Nonhomogeneous Markov Model for Daily Precipitation

open access: yesJournal of Hydrologic Engineering, 1996
This paper presents a one-step nonhomogeneous Markov model for describing daily precipitation at a site. Daily transitions between wet and dry states are considered. The one-step, 2x2 transition-probability matrix is presumed to vary smoothly day by day over the year. The daily transition-probability matrices are estimated nonparametrically.

Daily high-resolution temperature and precipitation fields for Switzerland from 1763 to 2020

open access: yes, 2022
This dataset provides high-resolution (1km x 1km), daily reconstructions of temperature and precipitation fields for Switzerland from 1763 to 2020. The fields are reconstructed using the analog resampling method and subsequent data assimilation for ...

A new flow chip in combination with multiphoton microscopy as a protocol for longitudinal 3D imaging of tissue calcification under shear stress

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Miniaturized flow chip platform enabling continuous perfusion and longitudinal multiphoton 3D imaging of vascular smooth muscle cell constructs under physiological flow. Brightfield imaging guides region selection, while CellTracker Green and mRuby‐labeled fetuin‐A visualize cells and mineral deposition, respectively. Magnesium supplementation markedly

Spatiotemporal Variations of Extreme Precipitation under a Changing Climate in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area (TGRA)

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2018
The Three Gorges Dam (TGD) is one of the largest hydroelectric projects in the world. Monitoring the spatiotemporal distribution of extreme precipitation offers valuable information for adaptation and mitigation strategies and reservoir management ...

Evaluation of 3B42V7 and IMERG daily-precipitation products for a very high-precipitation region in northwestern South America

open access: yes, 2021
The availability of water is critical in determining the distribution of species by favoring or limiting their development, and leading to the formation of different ecosystems.
