seNorge_2018, daily precipitation and temperature datasets over Norway [PDF]
Abstract. seNorge_2018 is a collection of observational gridded datasets over Norway for: daily total precipitation; daily mean, maximum and minimum temperatures. The time period covers 1957 to 2017, and the data are presented over a high-resolution terrain-following grid with 1 km spacing in both meridional and zonal directions.

Statistical tool for modeling of a daily precipitation process in the context of climate change
The present study proposes a climate change assessment tool based on a statistical downscaling (SD) approach for describing the linkage between large-scale climate predictors and observed daily rainfall characteristics at a local site. The proposed SD of

Prediction of daily precipitation using wavelet—neural networks [PDF]
Abstract This study aims to predict the daily precipitation from meteorological data from Turkey using the wavelet—neural network method, which combines two methods: discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and artificial neural networks (ANN). The wavelet—ANN model provides a good fit with the observed data, in particular for zero precipitation in the summer ...

Variations in sub-daily precipitation at centennial scale [PDF]
AbstractDue to data availability long-term variations in precipitation rates are mostly studied based on daily precipitation recordings. Recent research suggests, however, that variations in sub-daily precipitation are subject to higher dynamics compared to daily precipitation and a more rapid intensification is likely.

The effect of the Madden-Julian Oscillation on station rainfall and river level in the Fly River system, Papua New Guinea [PDF]
The Madden-Julian oscillation (MJO) is the dominant mode of intraseasonal variability in tropical rainfall on the large scale, but its signal is often obscured in individual station data, where effects are most directly felt at the local level.

Temporal and spatial variations in maximum river discharge from a new Russian data set [PDF]
Floods cause more damage in Russia than any other natural disaster, and future climate model projections suggest that the frequency and magnitude of extreme hydrological events will increase in Russia with climate change.

Nonhomogeneous Markov Model for Daily Precipitation
This paper presents a one-step nonhomogeneous Markov model for describing daily precipitation at a site. Daily transitions between wet and dry states are considered. The one-step, 2x2 transition-probability matrix is presumed to vary smoothly day by day over the year. The daily transition-probability matrices are estimated nonparametrically.

The study of long precipitation series constitutes an important issue in climate research and risk assessment. However, long datasets are affected by inhomogeneities that can lead to biased results.

The Analysis of Spatial and Temporal Distribution of Daily Precipitation on the Central and South Western Iran [PDF]
In this research, temporal and spatial behavior of precipitation on the central and south western areas of Iran was studied at 114 synoptic, climatology and rain gauge stations, which had a statistic more than 10 years, in a period from 1329/10/11 to ...

Evaluation of European regional reanalyses and downscalings for precipitation in the Alpine region
Datasets of the observed weather and climate on a regular grid are an important requisite for environmental and climate change research. In this paper we evaluate several European-scale regional reanalyses, developed in the EU project EURO4M, and compare
