Evaluation of Six Neural Networks and Two Geostatistical Methods for Generating the Missing Precipitation Data [PDF]

open access: yesمهندسی منابع آب, 2015
Improving the accuracy of the missing precipitation data, particularly in large watershed with low-density precipitation network, is one of the challenges of the hydrologists.

Estimating the Payoffs of Temperature-based Weather Derivatives [PDF]

open access: yes
Temperature-based weather derivatives are written on an index which is normally defined to be a nonlinear function of average daily temperatures. Recent empirical work has demonstrated the usefulness of simple time-series models of temperature for ...

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Transferability across countries of equations developed using milk mid-infrared spectroscopy to estimate daily body condition score change in dairy cows

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science
: Routine milk samples are commonly subjected to spectroscopic analysis within the mid-infrared (MIR) region of the electromagnetic spectrum to estimate macro-constituents of milk such as fat, protein, lactose, and urea content.

Analysis of hydraulic load of a wastewater treatment plant in Jasło

open access: yesJournal of Water and Land Development, 2016
The paper presents an analysis of hydraulic load in a wastewater treatment plant (WTP) in Jasło. The study was based on the records of daily sewage volume entering the treatment plant within a multi-year period of 2010–2014.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Spatial modelling for mixed-state observations

open access: yes, 2008
In several application fields like daily pluviometry data modelling, or motion analysis from image sequences, observations contain two components of different nature.

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Effects of stage of pregnancy on variance components, daily milk yields and 305-day milk yield in Holstein cows, as estimated by using a test-day model

open access: yesAnimal, 2016
Pregnancy and calving are elements indispensable for dairy production, but the daily milk yield of cows decline as pregnancy progresses, especially during the late stages.

A two-step approach to model precipitation extremes in California based on max-stable and marginal point processes

open access: yes, 2015
In modeling spatial extremes, the dependence structure is classically inferred by assuming that block maxima derive from max-stable processes. Weather stations provide daily records rather than just block maxima. The point process approach for univariate
