Appreciating Cow–Calf Contact: Evaluating prospective consumer segments in Germany through cluster analysis of alternative calf-rearing systemsMendeley Data

open access: yesJournal of Agriculture and Food Research
Public concern about early cow-calf separation and individual calf housing is increasing. In response, alternative calf-rearing systems, such as cow–calf contact (CCC) systems, including foster cow and dam rearing, are discussed.

Giardia duodenalis Styles, 1902 Prevalence in Cattle (Bos taurus Linnaeus, 1758) in Europe: A Systematic Review

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2023
Giardia duodenalis Styles, 1902 is an infectious agent which can cause enteritic disease in cattle (Bos taurus Linnaeus, 1758) worldwide. As a zoonotic protozoan, it is important to acknowledge Giardia prevalence and assemblages found in cattle and risk ...

Prevalence, Molecular Identification, and Antimicrobial Resistance Traits of Pasteurella multocida Isolated From Nasal Swabs of Buffaloes in Bangladesh

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
Pasteurella multocida was detected in buffalo habitats through culture (49 isolates) and polymerase chain reaction confirmation (29 isolates). Antibiotic susceptibility testing showed high ampicillin resistance, underscoring the emergence of antimicrobial resistance and emphasizing the need for improved surveillance and targeted therapeutic strategies.

‘Becoming With’ on the Dairy Farm: A Post‐Humanist Inquiry Into More‐Than‐Human Socialisation and Agency

open access: yesSociologia Ruralis, Volume 66, Issue 4, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Literature has described dairy cows as both passive objects and active participants in the milk production process. This study explores how this passivity and activity co‐exist through an inquiry into dairy cow agency within a post‐anthropocentric conceptualisation of socialisation theories.

Assessment of current colostrum feeding practices and passive transfer of immunity in dairy herds in Great Britain: A cross‐sectional study

open access: yesVeterinary Record, Volume 199, Issue 6, Page e262-e271, 19/26 September 2026.
Abstract Background Updated targets for measuring transfer of passive immunity (TPI) at the herd level have been suggested, but the current performance of dairy herds in Great Britain is unknown. Methods A cross‐sectional study was performed. Serum total protein (STP) data collected between October 2022 and October 2023 by 21 veterinary practices were ...

Use of Restricted Nursing and a Bovine Appeasing Substance on the Welfare, Growth Performance, and Response to Vaccination of Beef Calves at Weaning

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, Volume 4, Issue 3, Page 314-321, August 2026.
The effects of restricted nursing (RN) and the administration of a bovine appeasing substance (BAS) on days −8 and 0 in relation to weaning were evaluated. Both strategies were effective in improving the growth performance of beef calves. Regarding welfare, BAS ‐especially on day 0‐ was more effective than RN.

Table_1_Effect of Type of Cow-Calf Contact on Health, Blood Parameters, and Performance of Dairy Cows and Calves.XLSX

open access: yes, 2022
Prolonged cow-calf contact (CCC) could potentially improve dairy calf welfare. However, it is currently unknown how different types of CCC affect animals' biological functions. We evaluated health and performance parameters of dairy calves and their dams,

Investigation of Specific IgG‐Secreting Cells in Congenital Toxoplasmosis: The TOXODIAG Study

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, Volume 40, Issue 14, July 2026.
This study addressed the difficulty of establishing a postnatal biological diagnosis of congenital toxoplasmosis, particularly in the absence of toxoplasmosis monitoring during pregnancy, as is the case in many countries. Our work presents an ELISPOT (Enzyme‐Linked Immunospot) method adapted for the detection of B lymphocytes primed to produce IgG ...

Nature's values, drivers and perceived influence on ecosystem services shape agroecological livestock farming in the Netherlands

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 8, Issue 7, Page 2368-2382, July 2026.
Abstract The environmental benefits of agroecological farm management have been demonstrated, but its uptake is still lagging. Understanding how specific practices relate to drivers and ecosystem services (ES), and what values of nature underlie those factors can be useful in understanding what type of practices are preferred by farmers under which ...
