Indexing Damage using distortion of embedded FBG sensor response spectra

open access: yes, 2013
Structural Health Monitoring Systems based on embedded FBG sensors, to identify damage conditions, are largely dependent on the spectral distortion of the sensors.

Experimental and Design Research on Seismic Performance of Connectors in Timber–Concrete Composite Structures

open access: yesBuildings
To evaluate the mechanical properties of connectors in timber–concrete composite (TCC) structures under low-cycle reversed loading, eighteen push-out specimens were designed and fabricated following the standard push-out test method.

The Damage Index: An aggregation tool for usability problem prioritisation. [PDF]

open access: yesElectronic Workshops in Computing, 2010
The aggregation of usability problems is an integral part of a usability evaluation. Numerous problems can be revealed and given that there are usually limited resources for fixing or redesigning the system then prioritisation of the problem set is essential.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Damage index-based lower bound structural design

open access: yes, 2018
The scope of the work is to detect the most appropriate damage index, able to provide a reliable description of the structural damage level. This damage index is used to formulate a performance-based design framework to be used as a design tool for ...

Seismic Performance Analysis of Middle Column Joints with T-Stub Steel Connections Considering Cumulative Damage

open access: yesBuildings
In this paper, the quasi-static reciprocating loading test was carried out for the T-stub steel middle column joints with blind-bolt connections. As the thickness of the T-stub steel increased, the damage failure modes were different.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Damage Indexing Method for Shear Critical Tubular Reinforced Concrete Structures Based on Crack Image Analysis

open access: yesSensors, 2019
Image analysis techniques have been applied to measure the displacements, strain field, and crack distribution of structures in the laboratory environment, and present strong potential for use in structural health monitoring applications.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
