Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Experimental and Numerical Analysis on Damage Mechanism of Fire-redardant Coating in Small-scale Steel Frame Under Earthquake

open access: yes工程科学与技术, 2022
To investigate the damage mechanism of the thick coating in the steel frames under earthquake, one small-scale experiment was conducted. The failure modes and positions of the thick coating in the steel beam and columns were observed in detail. The inter-

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Seismic Response Characteristics of a Utility Tunnel Crossing a River Considering Hydrodynamic Pressure Effects

open access: yesBuildings
As a long lifeline system of buried structures, the utility tunnel (UT) is vulnerable to earthquake invasion. For utility tunnels with inverted siphon arrangements crossing rivers, the seismic response is more complex due to the basin effect of ...

Mechanisms of Brain Damage in Twins [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Neurological Sciences / Journal Canadien des Sciences Neurologiques, 1982
SUMMARY:The brains of 18 twins dying in the perinatal period showed a variety of lesions. Eleven had subependymal cell plate hemorrhage which had ruptured into the lateral ventricles in five. Five had periventricular damage. Three had anoxic neuronal damage. One acardiac monster had bilateral cerebral infarction.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.
