HEART-RATE VARIABILITY IN BRAIN-DAMAGED ADULTS
The Lancet, 1977To test whether or not the characteristics of the adult heart-rate reflect the condition of the central nervous system (as they seem to do in the fetus), ten patients with neurological deficits of acute onset were studied. No patients had received drugs and none was hypoxic. The findings indicate that the normal cyclic changes in heart-rate are reduced

Complex Damage Variables in Continuum Damage Mechanics
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015The concept of complex damage variables is introduced in this work. These damage variables have both real and imaginary parts. They are introduced not to use them in practical applications but to try to derive a direct relationship between the damage due to cross-sectional area reduction and the damage due to elastic stiffness degradation.

Blood Pressure Variability And Organ Damage
Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology, 2001SUMMARY1. Blood pressure variability (BPV) is expressed as the standard deviation of the average blood pressure (BP). Blood pressure variability is increased in hypertensive patients and animals. However, BPV is not necessarily related to the BP level.2.

A Comparative Study of Damage Variables in Continuum Damage Mechanics
International Journal of Damage Mechanics, 2008In this work, various definitions of the damage variables are examined and compared. In particular, special emphasis is given to a new damage variable that is defined in terms of the elastic stiffness of the material. Both the scalar and tensorial cases are investigated.
