A New Class of Damage Variables in Continuum Damage Mechanics

Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology, 2012
In this work various new proposed damage variables are introduced, examined and compared. Only the scalar case pertaining to isotropic damage is investigated here. Several types of new damage variables are proposed as follows: (1) damage variables that are defined in terms of cross-sectional area, (2) damage variables that are defined in terms of the ...

A variable parameters damage model for concrete

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2020
Abstract A novel four-parameters damage constitutive model for concrete in strain space is proposed in this paper. It is based on the Heish-Ting-Chen constitutive model and is derived in the framework of the thermodynamics of irreversible process. Because tension damage is a major fracture mode in concrete used for hydraulic structures, an equivalent

Prolonged Muscle Damage Depends on Force Variability

International Journal of Sports Medicine, 2009
Skeletal muscle damage frequently occurs after eccentric exercise, however, the relationship between intraindividual variability of eccentric exercise and skeletal muscle damage is not clear yet. The aim of the study was to test the hypothesis that prolonged decrease in skeletal muscle force depends on intraindividual variability of eccentric exercise.

Variability of Damage Ratios for Property in Earthquakes

Earthquake Spectra, 1999
In studies of damage to classes of property in earthquakes, the damage ratio for a class as a whole, denoted D¯ r , can differ appreciably from the mean damage ratio

On single damage variable models for fatigue

International Journal of Damage Mechanics, 2012
This study focuses on an analytical investigation of the common characteristics of fatigue models based on a single damage variable. The general single damage variable constitutive equation is used to extract several fundamental properties. It is shown that at constant amplitude loads, damage evolution results are sufficient for predicting fatigue life

Isotropic and Anisotropic Damage Variables in Continuum Damage Mechanics

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1990
The present work analyzes the implication and limitation of some scalar damage models. In particular, the elastic‐damage thermodynamic potential and the effective stress concept are reexamined. It is demonstrated that isotropic damage does not necessarily imply scalar damage representation in general.

Variability in Punitive Damages

Journal of Institutional and Theoretical Economics, 2010

Interrelation between Damage Variables of Continuum Damage Mechanics and Metallographical Parameters in Creep Damage

International Journal of Damage Mechanics, 1992
Identification of the evolution of the damage variable, D, in continuum creep damage theory was developed directly from the metallographical A-parameter. As the observed fraction of cavitated grain boundaries on the observation plane, A-parameter was first related to the cavity area fraction on the grain boundary facet planes by perform ing a ...

A plastic damage model for concrete structure cracks with two damage variables

Science China Technological Sciences, 2012
Based on the concepts of continuum damage theory, a new plastic damage model for concrete crack failure is developed through studying the basic damage mechanics. Two damage variables, tensile damage variable for tensile damage and shear damage variable for compressive damage, are adopted to represent the influence of microscopic damage on material ...

Investigation of the damage variable basic issues in continuum damage and healing mechanics

Mechanics Research Communications, 2015
Abstract Consistent mathematics and mechanics are used here to properly interpret the damage variable within the confines of the concept of reduced area due to damage. In this work basic issues are investigated for the damage variable in conjunction with continuum damage and healing mechanics.
