Issues Related to Damage Stability
2019This chapter attempts to provide a brief historical overview of how the demands for increased safety, in combination with advances in computing hardware and software, have resulted in changes to the regulatory framework governing damage stability.

Failure analysis of a damaged drilling stabilizer
Engineering Failure Analysis, 2019Abstract In this study, failure root causes of a 23" drill string stabilizer were investigated. The component showed failure signs on the shoulder zones, the sections which are critical for an efficient drilling operation yet the most vulnerable areas to the service damages.

Beach scraping — Is it damaging to beach stability?
Coastal Engineering, 1983Abstract Beach scraping is removal of material from the lower part of the beach for deposition on the higher part of the beach or at the dune toe. Beach scraping has become a controversial subject, as it is sometimes claimed that it does little good to the beach in question, and is harmful to adjacent beaches.

GOALDS - Goal Based Damage Stability - A New Approach to Passenger Ship Damage Stability and Safety
2010The new probabilistic damaged stability regulations for dry cargo and passenger ships (SOLAS 2009), which entered into force on January 1, 2009, represent a major step forward in achieving an improved safety standard through the rationalization and harmonization of damaged stability requirements.

Stability and energy minimization in elasticity with damage
International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1989Abstract We consider the energy minimization problem for elastic bars with continuous damage. where damage evolution is a function of strain evolution. Free energies with penalization terms are shown to be compatible with the Clausius-Duhem inequality.

GOALDS – Goal Based Damaged Stability: Collision and Grounding Damages
2011The present paper outlines the current status of work of the EU funded, FP7 project GOALDS (Goal Based Damaged Stability, 2009-2012), which aims at addressing shortcomings of SOLAS 2009 with respect to the survivability assessment of passenger ships by state of the art scientific methods, formulating a rational, risk-based regulatory framework ...
