Damage in transition

Trends in Biochemical Sciences, 2005
Double-stranded DNA breaks (DSBs) are a particularly dangerous form of DNA damage because they can lead to chromosome loss, translocations or truncations. When DSBs occur, many proteins are recruited to the break site; these proteins serve to both initiate DNA repair and to activate a checkpoint response.

Damage indices and damage measures

Progress in Structural Engineering and Materials, 2000
This article reviews the ground motion parameters than can be assumed as structural and non-structural damage measures. Measures of seismic damage potential based on ground motion records are first described, followed by a discussion of the damage measures relating to simple (linear) and more complex (non-linear) structural responses.

Damage and Damages

2007
Abstract This chapter discusses damage and damages, including contributory negligence, as they relate to tort law in Europe and the European Union. The rights to compensation of the victim for personal injury differ substantially from system to system, particularly in the area of non-pecuniary loss.

The Damage of Moral Damage

2005
AbstractThis chapter explores problems with utilizing the concept of moral damage for discussing oppressed people. Highlighting what are actually wounds due to oppressive conditions can unintentionally lend credibility to a victim-blaming stance that attributes a group’s subordination to an inherent or self-perpetuating inferiority.

DNA damage, repair and chromosomal damage

International Journal of Radiation Biology, 1997
An important question in radiobiology is the relationship between primary DNA damage and chromosomal aberrations. What determines the chromosomal aberration frequency, especially in radiosensitive cells? Much evidence points to the double-strand break (dsb) as the critical lesion, however there is controversy over whether it is the initial induction ...

Damaging Copyright Damages

2009
Abstract This chapter analyzes the issue of the danger posed by statutory damages. It begins with an overview of the law of statutory damages. It then examines Congress's intent, describing the purposes of assuring adequate compensation and deterring infringement.

Hereditary damage

Radiation and Environmental Biophysics, 1979
For the purposes of radiation protection, risk estimates should be based on effects of irradiation at low doses and low dose-rates. Although few genetic studies have been made on effects at low doses those carried out at low dose-rates suggest that the response is generally linear for induction of both gene mutations and chromosomes aberrations.
