Eigenproperties of Nonclassically Damped Primary Structure and Oscillator Systems

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1987
The calculation of the combined eigenproperties of a nonclassically damped structure and a supported equipment is of practical interest. Herein an approach is developed whereby these properties can be obtained, in terms of the eigenproperties of the structure and equipment, without a conventional eigenvalue analysis of the combined system.

Damping analysis of primary and auxiliary control of HVDC systems

European Transactions on Electrical Power, 2006
AbstractIt is well documented that an inappropriate HVDC controller will cause dynamic instability in an AC/DC system. In order to have a better analysis on the mechanism of this phenomenon, this paper proposes a generic theoretical equation of electric damping coefficient of a HVDC link using the complex torque coefficient (CTC) method for ...

A Strategy for Adaptive Damping in Vehicle Primary Suspension Systems

Adaptive Structures and Composite Materials: Analysis and Application, 1994
Abstract In this paper the authors describe a preliminary study in which a strategy is devised to optimise an adaptive damping device for use in vehicle primary suspension systems. The adaptive damper is representative of a device which employs electro-structured (ESF) fluids to provide continuously variable damping forces.

Description of excitation transfer and damping in the primary processes of bio-(chemical) systems

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1986
A theory of propagation of excitations in finite systems within the Haken-Strobl model is presented. The time dependence of various characteristics of the system with a trap (reaction centre), taken as a sink, was obtained. For large values of the sink rate constant the excitation prefers transfer back and forth inside the effectively decoupled ...

Perturbed complex eigenproperties of classically damped primary structure and equipment systems

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1987
In the dynamic analysis of light equipment supported on structures, it sometimes becomes essential to consider the effect of the non-classicality of damping on the dynamic characteristics and the equipment response, even if the supporting structure is classically damped.

Primary Resonance of a Vehicle Suspension System With Nonlinear Stiffness and Nonlinear Damping

Volume 2: Automotive Systems, Bioengineering and Biomedical Technology, Fluids Engineering, Maintenance Engineering and Non-Destructive Evaluation, and Nanotechnology, 2006
In this work, primary resonance of a single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) vehicle suspension system with nonlinear stiffness and nonlinear damping under multi-frequency excitations is investigated. The primary resonance equation is obtained by average method, and then the system’s bifurcation behaviors are studied by singularity theory.

Relaxation of polystyrene systems in the primary transition region: Damped debye lattices

Journal of Macromolecular Science, Part B, 1975
Abstract The relaxation spectra for plasticized and phenyl-substituted polystyrenes have been examined in the primary transition region and interpreted in terms of a damped Debye lattice. For all cases examined a broadening of the spectrum occurs. An explanation is sought on a molecular level.

Combined primary–secondary system approach to the design of an equipment isolation system with High-Damping Rubber Bearings

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2014
Abstract Isolating acceleration-sensitive equipment from the motion of the supporting structure represents an effective protection from earthquake damage. In this paper, a passive equipment isolation system composed of High-Damping Rubber Bearings (HDRB) is designed by adopting a coupled approach in which the supporting structure and the isolated ...

Primary Resonance and Bifurcations in Damped and Driven Duffing-Van der Pol System

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
In this paper, by using second-order averaging method, damped and driven Duffing-Van der Pol system is investigated in detail. The conditions for the existence and the bifurcations of harmonics are given.
