Fatigue‐resistant Fe‐Mn‐Si‐based alloy seismic dampers to counteract long‐period ground motion

open access: yesJapan Architectural Review, 2021
In recent years, resonance in high‐rise buildings due to long‐period ground motion, which induces large‐amplitude cyclic deformation of seismic dampers, has become a matter of significant concern.

A noniterative design procedure for supplemental brace–damper systems in single-degree-of-freedom systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this paper, a method for designing supplemental brace–damper systems in single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) structures is presented. We include the effects of the supporting brace stiffness in the dynamic response by using a viscoelastic Maxwell model. On

DAMPER

open access: yesProceedings of the 7th international conference on New interfaces for musical expression - NIME '07, 2007
This paper proposes that the physicality of an instrument be considered an important aspect in the design of new interfaces for musical expression. The use of Laban's theory of effort in the design of new effortful interfaces, in particular looking at effortspace modulation, is investigated, and a platform for effortful interface development (named the

Concepts and Models Regarding the Behavior of Antiseismic Devices for the Base Isolation System [PDF]

open access: yesConstructii: Journal of Civil Engineering Research, 2013
The paper presents the main antiseismic devices, as component elements of the base isolation systems, in such a manner that the functional and constructive parameters are correlated with the inertial and stiffness characteristics of the dynamic isolated ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Viscous Dampers on Suspension Bridges

open access: yes, 2023
Suspended steel cables are widely used in modern bridges today. However, as the spans of these bridges become larger, the length of the cables used increase consequently, so the problem of vibration in these cables becomes more evident. In some cases, it

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.
