Damping of kink waves by mode coupling : I. Analytical treatment

open access: yes, 2013
Aims. To investigate the spatial damping of propagating kink waves in an inhomogeneous plasma. In the limit of a thin tube surrounded by a thin transition layer, an analytical formulation for kink waves driven in from the bottom boundary of the corona is

An Energy-Balancing Perspective of Interconnection and Damping Assignment Control of Nonlinear Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Stabilization of nonlinear feedback passive systems is achieved assigning a storage function with a minimum at the desired equilibrium. For physical systems a natural candidate storage function is the difference between the stored and the supplied ...

Integrated Field‐Free SOT Domain‐Wall Synapses and MTJ Stochastic Neurons for Hardware Boltzmann Machines

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Field‐free spin‐orbit torque domain‐wall synapses integrated with stochastic MTJ neurons enable compact hardware Boltzmann machines. Leveraging intrinsic stochasticity and multi‐level conductance, the system achieves efficient probabilistic learning with high accuracy, demonstrating a scalable spintronic platform for energy‐efficient edge AI.

Design Parameters Affecting the Performance of Vortex-Induced Vibration Harvesters

open access: yesMicromachines
Vortex-induced vibration harvesters are usually equipped with small piezoelectric patches mounted near the cantilever clamp, where the largest longitudinal stress occurs.

Simulation of Nose Landing Gear Shimmy with Flexible Airframe Considered [PDF]

open access: yesXibei Gongye Daxue Xuebao, 2018
Shimmy stability of the nose landing gear of an aircraft is studied in this paper. Firstly, Shimmy model was built considering the dynamic characteristics of the airframe. Then the critical damping, critical velocity and frequency range of the shimmy are

Non-Fermi-liquid behavior and anomalous suppression of Landau damping in layered metals close to ferromagnetism

open access: yes, 2015
Financial support from the EPSRC (U.K.) under Grants No. EP/G03673X/1 (S. P. R.) and No. EP/I031014/1 (C. A. H.) is acknowledged. We analyze the low-energy physics of nearly ferromagnetic metals in two spatial dimensions using the functional ...

Ultrasensitive Anti‐Stokes Luminescence Thermometry in Transition Metal Dichalcogenide Monolayers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate a highly sensitive nanothermometer using anti‐Stokes photoluminescence, also known as photoluminescence upconversion (UPL), in monolayer tungsten disulfide. A strong resonantly enhanced UPL is observed, confirming the central role of optical phonons in the PL upconversion mechanism.

A robust fusion bus frequency estimation method to improve frequency oscillation damping in power systems

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission & Distribution, 2023
This paper proposes a new robust method for accurately and reliably estimating remote bus frequencies in a power system. Two different measurement sources for the remote bus frequency are considered, that is, the ideal Frequency Divider (FD) and the ...

Reduced joint models for damping design of multi-jointed structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
− Design of damping in multi-jointed structures is studied here. − Dissipation sources are viscoelastic behavior and contact/friction at joints interfaces. − Reduction on meta-models of nonlinear joints models is investigated.

Designed Lewis Acid–Base Passivation for High Performance Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Silicon's high cost and long energy payback time remain major barriers to the global expansion of solar power. In contrast, metal–halide perovskites offer abundant, solution‐processable absorbers, and have achieved efficiencies of 25%–30%, positioning them as strong competitors to silicon.
