Damping in some Metallic Cellular Metals due to Microplasticity

open access: yes, 2004
The damping capacities of a few porous structures are studied. Damping in porous structures is enhanced by localised stresses in comparison with the corresponding dense materials.

Assessing the performance of quantum repeaters for all phase-insensitive Gaussian bosonic channels

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2016
One of the most sought-after goals in experimental quantum communication is the implementation of a quantum repeater. The performance of quantum repeaters can be assessed by comparing the attained rate with the quantum and private capacity of direct ...

Microsphere‐Templated Conductive Syntactic Foams for Recyclable and Additively Manufactured Soft Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a microsphere‐templated strategy to fabricate reprocessable PEDOT:PSS syntactic foams with tunable porosity, stable conductivity, and 3D printability. In situ PEDOT:PSS coatings create a conductive network that maintains electrical performance at high void fractions.

Improvement of damping characteristics of structural members with high damping elastic inserts

open access: yes, 1973
The major objective of this work is to investigate theoretically the possibility of improving the damping capacities of structural members with the help of inserts of special high damping materials.

Tuning Amorphous‐Crystalline Catalytic Interfaces by Mechanochemistry: Cu‐Based Metallic Glasses Coupled with Ceria for CO Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ball‐milling Cu‐based metallic glasses with ceria creates a unique nanostructure where metallic glass particles are wrapped by CeO2 nanoparticles. The intimate integration triggers copper state reorganization during reaction and aging, boosting CO oxidation and COPrOx activity.

Intelligent Acousto‐Electrical Metamaterials (IAM) for Sound Source Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Our proposed metamaterial concept enables sound source detection using a single material, in contrast to conventional arrays that require dozens or even hundreds of transducers. We show that the coupled acoustic–vibrational–electrical responses in piezoelectric metamaterials give rise to topology‐governed charge transport, producing distinct voltage ...

Effect of Zr Content on Properties of Mg-Zr PM Damping Alloys

open access: yes, 2011
Mg-xZr damping alloys (x=0.6, 1.5, 2.5, 5, mass %) were prepared by PM (powder metallurgy ) technology, and effects of Zr contents on microstructure, mechanical properties and damping capacities of Mg-xZr damping alloys were researched by three-point ...

3D Anodic Alumina Nanoarchitectures: A Decade of Progress from Foundational Science to Functional Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ordered three‐dimensional anodic aluminum oxide (3D‐AAO) nanoarchitectures with longitudinal and transverse pores enable architecture‐driven metamaterials. The review maps fabrication advances, including hybrid pulse anodization, and shows how 3D‐AAO templates tailor properties across magnetism, energy, catalysis, and sensing.

Rate dependent damping of single crystal CuAlNi shape memory alloy

open access: yes, 2013
We report the effects of loading rate and ambient condition on the damping capacity (energy dissipation) of superelastic CuAlNi single crystal shape memory alloy during stress-induced martensitic phase transformation.

Positively Charged Polymer‐Brush MOFs for Large‐Area, Pressure‐Resistant Gas Separation Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A universal POPA strategy enables positively charged polymer‐brush MOFs with self‐adaptive interfacial interlocking to resist aggregation under fast processing. This design ensures seamless dispersion within large‐area selective layers, achieving 1 m‐wide roll‐to‐roll fabrication of pressure‐resistant MMCMs with tunable CO2 separation performance ...
