On Damping Properties of a Plucked String
A plucked string of musical instrument damps abnormally at specific frequencies. In order to investigate this phenomenon called "dead point", we measured the damping of a plucked string supported at two points on a simply supported beam. Consequently, when the natural frequencies of the system with strong coupling between the string and the beam ...

Ball‐milling Cu‐based metallic glasses with ceria creates a unique nanostructure where metallic glass particles are wrapped by CeO2 nanoparticles. The intimate integration triggers copper state reorganization during reaction and aging, boosting CO oxidation and COPrOx activity.

Flexoelectrically Induced Polar Topology in Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes
Twisted SrTiO3 bilayers host polar vortices of flexoelectric origin, revealed through combined experiment and theory. By reconstructing polarization from the toroidal moment of strain gradients, the work establishes a 3D chiral state with broken inversion and mirror symmetries.

A study of significant factors affecting viscoelastic damping properties of polymer materials
Viscoelastic behaviour of materials is connected with transformation of mechanical energy into heat, which is a measure of a material structural damping. Viscoelastic properties of materials are described by different quantities, e.g.

Intelligent Acousto‐Electrical Metamaterials (IAM) for Sound Source Detection
Our proposed metamaterial concept enables sound source detection using a single material, in contrast to conventional arrays that require dozens or even hundreds of transducers. We show that the coupled acoustic–vibrational–electrical responses in piezoelectric metamaterials give rise to topology‐governed charge transport, producing distinct voltage ...

Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) provides an effective method for the preparation of self-sealing powder damping components, but the introduction of cavities simultaneously leads to a decrease in the mechanical properties of the components.

Mechanical behaviour and damping properties of Ni modified Cu–Zn–Al shape memory alloys
The microstructure, mechanical behaviour and damping properties of Cu–18Zn–7Al–xNi alloys (where x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4) were investigated. The Cu–Zn–Al alloys were produced by casting and then subjected to a homogenization – cold rolling – annealing ...

Ordered three‐dimensional anodic aluminum oxide (3D‐AAO) nanoarchitectures with longitudinal and transverse pores enable architecture‐driven metamaterials. The review maps fabrication advances, including hybrid pulse anodization, and shows how 3D‐AAO templates tailor properties across magnetism, energy, catalysis, and sensing.

An investigation into the design for vibration damping of extended length tool holders [PDF]
This thesis presents a theoretical and experimental investigation into the design of extended length tool holders, with specific emphasis on vibration damping and the attenuation of chatter in boring bars.
