Nonlocal Metaspire: A Scalable Elastic Material Platform With Decoupled Mechanical Modes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Nonlocal Metaspire introduces sequential rotation to realize wider scalability in implementing complex nonlocal couplings in elastic metamaterials while suppressing unintended mode coupling. Numerical results clarify the underlying wave motions, demonstrate mode‐decoupled roton and maxon formation, and support a straightforward extension to higher ...

Generic transversality property for a class of wave equations with variable damping

open access: yes, 2005
In this paper, we focus on the one-dimensional wave equations with variable damping, either in the interior or on the boundary of an interval. We show that, generically with respect to the non-linearity, they satisfy the Kupka–Smale property, that is ...

Layered Nanoporous Platforms for SERS Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Here, we present a detailed investigation of the SERS performance of layered nanoporous metals. The controlled deposition of well‐defined, stacked porous layers enabled a systematic analysis of the effects of multimetallic systems in SERS experiments. Numerical models are also used to support the experimental findings.

Time‐Resolved Simultaneous Mapping of Thickness and Nanoparticle Concentration in Nanofluid Thin Films via Imaging Ellipsometry and Deep‐UV Reflectance Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study establishes a dual‐channel optical metrology framework integrating phase‐shifting imaging ellipsometry and deep‐UV reflectance imaging. This label‐free approach enables simultaneous, time‐resolved mapping of film thickness and nanoparticle (NP) concentration in dynamic nanofluid thin films.

Timoshenko systems with indefinite damping

open access: yes, 2007
We consider the Timoshenko system in a bounded domain (0,L)⊂R1. The system has an indefinite damping mechanism, i.e. with a damping function a=a(x) possibly changing sign, present only in the equation for the rotation angle.

A Survey of Interlayer Interaction Models for Graphene and Other 2D Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Van der Waals interactions arising from electronic polarization at atomically close interfaces generate corrugated interlayer energy landscapes that govern normal and tangential tractions. This review presents an overview of quantum, atomistic, analytical, and continuum modeling approaches, highlighting their roles across length scales in capturing ...

Damping properties of single-material and bi-material lattice structures

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Lattice structure is widely used to achieve lightweight while damping is an indispensable property for evaluating the dynamic properties of lattice structures.

Advanced Design for Weakly Coupled Resonators by Automatic Active Optimization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
An Automatic Active Optimization (AAO) strategy integrates machine learning predictors and genetic algorithms in a closed‐loop workflow. By iteratively expanding its dataset with new discoveries, AAO overcomes the limits of conventional methods. This approach finds superior microstructural designs beyond the initial sample space. We demonstrate this on

Experimental study on the damping property of aluminum alloy latticed shells with gusset joints

open access: yes, 2016
In order to investigate the damping property of aluminum alloy latticed shells with gusset joints, as well as to fill a blank in the existing design codes which do not give clear damping ratio value of this kind of structures, experimental tests were ...

Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...
