Prediction models and associated uncertainty for dynamic shear modulus and damping ratio of Beijing silty clay [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
Based on experimental data of normalized shear modulus and damping ratio from undisturbed silty clay within 120 m depth in the Beijing area, the Davidenkov backbone curve is used to characterize the normalized shear modulus curve, and the damping ratio ...

Experimental study on damping ratio of overconsolidated clay under different cyclic confining pressures

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2022
Traffic loading is usually simulated by single cyclic deviator stress. However, the vertical normal stress and horizontal stress acting on the soil elements are all varied cyclically under the traffic loading.

Time-Domain Calculation Method of an Equivalent Viscous Damping Model Based on Complex Damping Model

open access: yesShanghai Jiaotong Daxue xuebao, 2021
The damping matrix of the complex damping model is easy to be constructed, which only depends on the material loss factor and the structural stiffness matrix.

Investigation of the effects of value and modeling approach of natural damping on nonlinear responses of low rise moment-resisting steel frames [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Structural and Construction Engineering, 2021
Nonlinear time history analysis is recognized as the most appropriate tool for assessing the real behaviour of structures during seismic excitations. Validity rate of obtained results from this analysis significantly depends to the modeling, details and ...

Theoretical and experimental studies on the hydrodynamic damping of elastic rotating propeller blades

open access: yesInternational Journal of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, 2022
The hydrodynamic damping characteristics of elastic rotating propeller blades are investigated theoretically and experimentally. Firstly, the modal hydrodynamic damping ratio of propeller blade rotating in water is theoretically predicted based on the ...

Experimental Study on Damping Ratio Characteristics of Loose Silty Fine Sand at Different Saturations [PDF]

open access: yes长江科学院院报
[Objective] Current research on the damping ratio evolution of silty fine sand under varying saturation conditions remains relatively limited, and in particular, systematic investigations revealing the mechanisms by which saturation variations influence ...

Health status identification of modular-block-reinforced soil retaining walls after earthquakes

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2023
Distribution of dynamic characteristics (natural frequency and damping ratio) of large-scale shaking table model tests on a reinforced soil retaining wall (RSRW) under different working conditions is analyzed by using the time-domain identification ...

A Damping Ratio Bound for Networks of Masses and Springs [PDF]

open access: yes2020 European Control Conference (ECC), 2020
The damping ratio is a key performance measure in systems that can be modelled as networks of masses and springs. We derive a lower bound on this quantity that applies to such networks when the masses are subject to viscous damping. The result allows the size of the damping ratio to be understood as a function of the system parameters.
