Effects of Time on Damping Ratio of Clays
1978Laboratory tests with a Hardin oscillator were used to study the time-dependent characteristics of the damping ratio of isotropically consolidated specimens of kaolinite and calcium bentonite. Damping was determined using a steady-state method and from the decay of free vibrations.

On damping ratio of polynomials with perturbed coefficients
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 1992C.B. Soh and C.S. Berger (1988) derived a sufficient condition for a family of interval polynomials to have a damping ratio of phi using Kharitonov's theorem for complex polynomials. This paper points out that the transformations used by Soh and Berger to obtain the sufficient conditions also guarantee a simplification of Kharitonov's theorem for ...

Increasing Damping Ratios in a Tuned Liquid Damper Using Damping Bars
Key Engineering Materials, 2007Wind-induced vibration of tall buildings have been of interest in engineering for a long time. Wind-induced vibration of a tall building can be most effectively controlled by using passive control devices. The tuned liquid damper(TLD) is kind of a passive mechanical damper, which relies on the sloshing liquid in a rigid tank.

Damping Ratio of Soils from Laboratory and in Situ Tests
1997This paper considers the influence of N and g' on the damping ratio (D) of two undisturbed Italian clays and of three reconstituted granular soils. The experimental results were obtained in the laboratory by means of a Resonant Column/Torsional Shear apparatus. The damping ratio of a reconstituted silica sand was also determined, at small strains, from
