Time damping of non-adiabatic magnetohydrodynamic waves in a partially ionized prominence plasma: Effect of helium

open access: yes, 2009
Prominences are partially ionized, magnetized plasmas embedded in the solar corona. Damped oscillations and propagating waves are commonly observed. These oscillations have been interpreted in terms of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves.

Spatially Tailorable Liquid Crystalline Elastomer Alignment During Digital Light Process 3D Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, we report the fabrication of 3D printable liquid crystalline elastomer (LCE) structures with spatially tailorable alignment domains within the same layer. This work addresses the long‐standing challenge of preparing complex 3D LCE architectures with patterned functional domains to achieve nonlinear deformations. Fabrication of multi‐domains in 3D

Estimate of Small Stiffness and Damping Ratio in Residual Soil Using Spectral Analysis of Surface Wave Method

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2016
Research in the important parameters for modeling the dynamic behavior of soils has led to rapid development of the small strain stiffness and damping ratio for use in the seismic method. It is because, the experimental determination of the damping ratio

The effect of a reversible shear transformation on plastic deformation of an amorphous solid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Molecular dynamics simulations are performed to investigate the plastic response of a model glass to a local shear transformation in a quiescent system.

Role of Histidine‐Containing Peptoids in Accelerating the Kinetics of Calcite Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amphiphilic histidine‐containing peptoids mimic carbonic anhydrase (CA) to accelerate calcite step growth. In the presence of Zn2+, they promote the deprotonation of HCO3−, the desolvation of Ca2+, and the reorganization of interfacial hydration layers, thereby reducing the activation barrier for calcite growth.

The New Empirical Equation Describing Damping Phenomenon in Dynamically Loaded Subgrade Cohesive Soils

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
The damping ratio (D) is one of the key soil parameters in geotechnical issues where the soil is subjected to dynamic loads, like machines foundation, city tram and subway traffic, and driving of sheet pile or precast pile.

Some geotechnical properties and damping ratio of clay nanocomposites

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Research, 2019
Natural clays soils are commonly used in dams, landfills, nuclear plants, etc. as an impermeable component or protecting liner. However, there could be permanent damage in structural elements due to the problems such as swelling, settlement, and heaving of these soils because of varieties in water contents over time.
