The hybrid nature of Danaea plicata (Marattiaceae), a Costa Rican endemic
Brittonia, 2017We present evidence that Danaea plicata, endemic to Costa Rica, is a hybrid between D. carillensis and D. crispa. The laminae of D. plicata are intermediate in several morphological characters between the two putative parents, and the spores of D. plicata are misshapen and collapsed. The stomatal density of D. plicata is intermediate between that of D.

TROPIC RESPONSES CONTROLLING LEAF ORIENTATION IN THE FERN DANAEA WENDLANDII (MARATTIACEAE)
American Journal of Botany, 1990Fertile leaves (sporophylls) of the eusporangiate herbaceous layer fern Danaea wendlandii emerge from the shoot apex with a horizontal orientation. Croziers of sterile leaves (trophophylls) emerge from the terminal bud oriented vertically.

Evolutionary relationships within the Neotropical, eusporangiate fern genus Danaea (Marattiaceae)
Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2008Genera within the eusporangiate fern family Marattiaceae have long been neglected in taxonomic and systematic studies. Here we present the first phylogenetic hypothesis of relationships within the exclusively Neotropical genus Danaea based on a sampling of 60 specimens representing 31 species from various Neotropical sites.

A new species Danaea (Marattiaceae) from the Atlantic forests of Brazil
Phytotaxa, 2018With a long fossil history (Taylor, Taylor & Krings 2009), Marattiaceae are among the earliest lineages of vascular land plants and are an important link to understanding land plant evolution. The family currently has a pantropical distribution, but was more widely distributed in the past.
