To the Editor.— In a recent article Garewal et al1demonstrated that danazol, an attenuated androgen, given at a dose of 600 mg daily for eight to 14 weeks, is not useful in the treatment of factor VIII—deficient and factor IX—deficient hemophilic patients.

Danazol for Lupus Thrombocytopenia
Archives of Internal Medicine, 1985Danazol therapy was used in the treatment of three consecutive patients with lupus-associated thrombocytopenia refractory to high-dose prednisone therapy (two patients) or in whom high-dose prednisone therapy was considered contraindicated (one patient). Danazol is a 2,3-isoxazol derivative of 17 α-ethinyl testosterone; it is known to be an anabolic steroid with mild androgenic activity. The administration of the drug is associated with raised plasma levels of several proteins including prealbumin, haptoglobulin, transferrin, antithrombin III, prothrombin, plasminogen, α1-antitrypsin, and Cl esterase ...

Danazol Therapy in Myelodysplasia
Annals of Internal Medicine, 1985Platelet-associated IgG was markedly elevated in three patients with myelodysplasia and severe thrombocytopenia that had become refractory to platelet transfusions. The patients were treated with danazol because of its efficacy in treating immune thrombocytopenic purpura where platelet destruction is primarily mediated by IgG autoantibodies.
