Interstellar Extinction in the Direction of The Barnard 1 Dark Cloud in Perseus [PDF]

open access: hybridOpen Astronomy, 2003
AbstractSpectral and luminosity classes, absolute magnitudes, color excesses, interstellar extinctions and distances are determined for 98 stars down to 18 mag in the Barnard 1 dark cloud belonging to the Per OB2 association. The classification of stars is based on their photoelectric photometry in the Vilnius seven-color photometric system.

A study of the nine interstellar dark clouds

open access: bronzeAstrophysical Journal, Supplement Series, 1981
An investigation of the physical and chemical properties of nine interstellar dark clouds is reported. Observations of a variety of atomic and molecular species have been obtained and the clouds have been partially mapped in the near infrared. The observations have been compared with theoretical models of the line emission and absorption from ...

Laboratory Simulation of the Positron–Dust Interaction and its Implication for Interstellar Dark Clouds

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We report the first laboratory experiment dealing with the interaction of a cosmic dust simulant with positrons emitted from a ^22 Na radioisotope. Measurements of a charge of micrometer SiO _2 dust grains with an accuracy of one elementary charge e ...

The Chemistry of Cold, Dark Interstellar Clouds [PDF]

open access: bronzeSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1987
In recent years the nearby cold, dark clouds have been shown to possess a rich chemistry, with interesting differences with respect to warmer massive-star-forming regions and also among the cold clouds themselves. 39 molecular species are now known in these regions.

Interstellar chemistry of nitrogen hydrides in dark clouds [PDF]

open access: bronzeAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2013
The aim of the present work is to perform a comprehensive analysis of the interstellar chemistry of nitrogen, focussing on the gas-phase formation of the smallest polyatomic species and in particular nitrogen hydrides. We present a new chemical network in which the kinetic rates of critical reactions have been updated based on recent experimental and ...

The dark side of interstellar clouds

open access: yes, 2005
The comparison of HI, CO, dust, and gamma-ray maps in the solar neighborhood has led to the discovery of large amounts of dark gas not traced in HI and CO at the transition between the two phases.
