Double beta decay and dark matter in the Gotthard germanium experiment

Journal of Physics G: Nuclear and Particle Physics, 1991
An array of eight high purity germanium crystals is operated in the Gotthard road tunnel. Based on a data sample of 6.2 kg years, limits on different modes of double beta decay in 76Ge are obtained. In particular, the half-life for the neutrinoless double beta decay to the ground state of 76Se is greater than 2.0*1023 (3.4*1023) years at the 90% (68 ...

Ice shielding in the large scale GENIUS experiment for double beta decay and dark matter search

The European Physical Journal A, 1998
We suggest here the use of ice as shielding material in the large scale GENIUS experiment for the ultimate sensitive double beta decay and dark matter search. The idea is to pack a working volume of several tons of liquid nitrogens, which contains the “naked” Ge detectors, inside an ice shielding.

Double Beta Decay Experiments and Searches for Dark Matter Candidates and Solar Axions

1988
A brief discussion of the theoretical status of double beta decay is given. A number of experiments searching for double beta decay of 76Ge, 82Se, 100Mo, 136Xe and 150Nd are discussed. A brief review is given of published efforts to search for cosmic dark matter candidate particles and solar axions using the low background detector of a Ge double-beta ...
