Numerical investigation of flow structures around the DARPA SUBOFF model

Ocean Engineering, 2021
Abstract A large eddy simulation (LES) of a fully appended SUBOFF model was performed by the Boundary Data Immersion Method (BDIM) with the Reynolds number of 1.2 × 107. Numerical simulation is carried out through Fortran-based code and the geometric structure used in this paper is an idealized submarine (DARPA SUBOFF, with appendages).

Design and CFD Self-Propulsion Analysis of a Ducted Propeller for a DARPA SUBOFF Hull Autonomous Underwater Vehicle

Volume 6A: Ocean Engineering, 2020
Abstract This paper presents the design and the CFD self-propulsion analysis of a ducted propeller to operate in a DARPA SUBOFF hull Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV). The ducted propeller is of the pump jet type with 9 blades at the rotor and 11 blades at the stator.

Numerical Study on the Hydrodynamic Performance of the DARPA Suboff Submarine for Steady Translation

Volume 8: CFD and FSI, 2020
Abstract This study was built upon previous works conducted by the authors in a series of numerical studies on submarine hydrodynamics and is aimed at enhancing the accuracy of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) application processes, which estimate the hydrodynamic performance of underwater vehicles for steady translation conditions in ...

Free Surface Effect on the Hydrodynamics of an Underwater Vehicle Hullform, the Darpa Suboff

International Journal of Maritime Engineering, 2022
This paper presents the numerical study on the hydrodynamic coefficients of the submarine hull form “DARPA SUBOFF” when deeply submerged and near the free surface when travelling straight ahead and at a range of drift angles. The Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)-based numerical model was validated with experimental data existing in the public domain ...
