AbstractIn this unit we discuss the importance of implementing a data management system for research animal colonies. We focus on drivers such as ethical considerations, cost, and data integrity. We also discuss keys to effective data management and important considerations for adopting or building a data management system, and present an overview of ...

Ant Colony Algorithms for Data Learning
International Journal of Applied Evolutionary Computation, 2013Fuzzy Ant-Miner algorithm processes data with nominal class and has the disadvantage of not treating the data with continuous class. In this paper, after presenting the Fuzzy Ant Miner algorithm, the authors propose a new learning method to partition heterogeneous data with continuous class.

Television & New Media, 2020
This article proposes a critique of “data colonialism” as elaborated by Nick Couldry and Ulises Mejias. The main limitation of this theory is the essentialist conception of “colonialism,” “quantifier sector” and “self,” which overlooks historical ...

Data reduction for classification with ant colony algorithms
Intelligent Data Analysis, 2016In the field of data mining, classification is a supervised learning task whose purpose is to induce models (classifiers), using a set of labeled training data instances, to predict the class of new unlabeled instances. Data preparation is crucial to the data mining process, and its aim is to improve the fitness of the training data to allow learning ...

Basic data standards for primate colonies
American Journal of Primatology, 1993AbstractA set of simple standards has been developed to ease the task of transferring primate colony data between institutions and computers, and to assure that colony vital statistics are appropriate for demographic and genetic analyses. The standards have been designed to be easily and inexpensively implemented from existing databases, and also may ...

Militarized Biometric Data Colonialism
2023Abstract This chapter contends that the unprecedented collection of biometric data of the Afghan people by and under the direction of the United States from 2001 to 2021 transformed into both a method for data colonization and resource extraction, as well as a vehicle for surveillance capitalism. The U.S.

Enhancing data parallelism for Ant Colony Optimization on GPUs
Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing, 2013Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) have evolved into highly parallel and fully programmable architecture over the past five years, and the advent of CUDA has facilitated their application to many real-world applications. In this paper, we deal with a GPU implementation of Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), a population-based optimization method which ...
