Data colonialism on Facebook for personalised advertising: The discrepancy of privacy concerns and the privacy paradox

Journal of Data Protection & Privacy
In the digital era, Facebook serves as one of the leading sources of personal data and monetises that information for advertising purposes. This study aims to investigate users' perceptions regarding personal data collection and privacy concerns on ...

Bacterial Colony Optimization for Data Clustering

2019 IEEE International Conference on Electrical, Computer and Communication Technologies (ICECCT), 2019
Clustering is the process of the grouping object in a given data objects based on their similarity between data objects. The swarm intelligent based clustering algorithms are generally stochastic search techniques that followed by the morality of cooperative behavior and self organization of an insect group.

Ant Colonies and Data Mining

2009
The chapter concentrates on the use of swarm intelligence in data mining. It focuses on the problem of medical data clustering. Clustering is a constantly growing area of current research. Medicine, market, trade, and meteorology belong to the numerous fields that benefit of its techniques.

Data clustering by ant colony on a digraph

2005 International Conference on Machine Learning and Cybernetics, 2005
An adaptive data clustering algorithm based on ant colony (ant-cluster) is presented. Enlightened by the self-organizing behavior of ant society, we assign acceptance rates on the directed edges of a pheromone digraph in ant-cluster system. The pheromone on the edges of the digraph is adaptively updated by the ants passing it.

Constrained Ant Colony Optimization for Data Clustering

2004
Processes that simulate natural phenomena have successfully been applied to a number of problems for which no simple mathematical solution is known or is practicable. Such meta-heuristic algorithms include genetic algorithms, particle swarm optimization and ant colony systems and have received increasing attention in recent years. This paper extends

Data Mining with Ant Colony Algorithms

2013
The Ant-Miner algorithm, Ant-Miner2, Ant-Miner3 and Taco-Miner have an excellent performance in classification tasks, what can be seen in literature. These algorithms are inspired on the behavior of real ant colonies and some data mining concepts as well as principles.

Ant Colony Algorithms for Data Classification

2009
Ant colony optimization (ACO) is a relatively new computational intelligence paradigm inspired by the behavior of natural ants (Dorigo & Stutzle, 2004). Ants often find the shortest path between a food source and the nest of the colony without using visual information.

Data Colonialism

Digital Colonialism and Inequality represent a new front of global power, in which control over technology and data reinforces inequalities between nations and populations. The rapid expansion of digital technologies has brought about an uneven access to, and use of, knowledge and resources, predominantly benefiting a privileged minority at the expense

Using ant colonies to solve data-mining problems

2004 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37583), 2005
Data mining is a constantly growing area. More and more domains of the daily life take advantage of the available tools (medicine, trade, meteorology, ...). However, such tools are confronted to a particular problem: the great number of characteristics that qualify data samples. They are more or less victims of the abundance of information.
