Data‐driven performance metrics for neural network learning

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView., 2023
Summary Effectiveness of data‐driven neural learning in terms of both local mimima trapping and convergence rate is addressed. Such issues are investigated in a case study involving the training of one‐hidden‐layer feedforward neural networks with the extended Kalman filter, which reduces the search for the optimal network parameters to a state ...

Comparison of Compression-Based Measures with Application to the Evolution of Primate Genomes

open access: yesEntropy, 2018
An efficient DNA compressor furnishes an approximation to measure and compare information quantities present in, between and across DNA sequences, regardless of the characteristics of the sources.

Launching Vehicle Acoustic Data Compression Study Using Lossy Audio Formats [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Aerospace Technology and Management, 2020
The field of data compression has evolved over the last decades. In this way, several techniques to reduce the amount of acquired data from the sensor required to be transmitted have been developed. Those techniques are usually classified by lossless or

Data Compression and Wavelet Transforms [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1994
Efficient data compression needs analyzing functions to recognise the local resolution of the signal. They are provided by the wavelet concept. The optimal wavelet (best information concentration) is defined by the image model of the application.

The epithelial barrier theory proposes a comprehensive explanation for the origins of allergic and other chronic noncommunicable diseases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Exposure to common noxious agents (1), including allergens, pollutants, and micro‐nanoplastics, can cause epithelial barrier damage (2) in our body's protective linings. This may trigger an immune response to our microbiome (3). The epithelial barrier theory explains how this process can lead to chronic noncommunicable diseases (4) affecting organs ...

Mycobacterium tuberculosis sulfurtransferase SseA is activated by its neighboring gene product Rv3284

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Tuberculosis remains a global health challenge and new therapeutic targets are required. Here, we characterized SseA, a sulfurtransferase from Mycobacterium tuberculosis involved in macrophage infection, and its interaction with the newly identified protein SufEMtb that activates SseA enzymatic activity.

Dither and data compression

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 1997
This correspondence presents entropy analyses for dithered and undithered quantized sources. Two methods are discussed that reduce the increase in entropy caused by the dither. The first method supplies the dither to the lossless encoding-decoding scheme. It is argued that this increases the complexity of the encoding-decoding scheme.
