Data analysis includes the acquisition of data from a wide variety of sources, using different media and ranging in size from a few bytes to hundreds of millions of bytes. In the case of large data sets, the problem reduces to finding an efficient way for an analyst or other user to extract useful subsets from the source data with minimal programming ...

DEByE – Data Extraction By Example
Data & Knowledge Engineering, 2002Summary: In this paper we present DEByE (Data Extraction By Example), an approach to extracting data from Web sources, based on a small set of examples specified by the user. The novelty is in the fact that the user specifies examples according to a structure of his liking and that this structure is described at example specification time.

Searching for patterns is one of the main goals in data mining. Patterns have important applications in many KDD domains like rule extraction or classification. In this paper we present some methods of rule extraction by generalizing the existing approaches for the pattern problem.

Reasoning and Ontologies in Data Extraction
2012The web has become a pig sty-everyone dumps information at random places and in random shapes. Try to find the cheapest apartment in Oxford considering rent, travel, tax and heating costs; or a cheap, reasonable reviewed 11" laptop with an SSD drive. Data extraction flushes structured information out of this sty: It turns mostly unstructured web pages ...

Targeted Extraction of Simulation Data
2015 IEEE/ACM 19th International Symposium on Distributed Simulation and Real Time Applications (DS-RT), 2015Since simulation is a tool for generating data, a major task in executing simulations is to extract data from simulation runs. However, traditional methods of data extraction such as instrumenting the model code by hand or over-instrumenting the model and filtering data offline suffer from inflexibility and poor efficiency.

Data extraction by visual matching
Proceedings of the International Conference on Computer Systems and Technologies and Workshop for PhD Students in Computing, 2009This article deals with the problem of data extraction on the basis of visual appearance and the similarity of visual representation. This approach extends the existing approaches to the extraction of data on another dimension. In addition to the structure of data, their visual representation is taken into account. This article presents a new method of

ExtracTable: Extracting Tables from Raw Data Files
2023Raw data, especially in text-files, comes in many shapes and forms, often tailored toward human readability. They include preambles and footnotes, are formatted visually, and in general do not follow csv-guidelines. The ability to easily ingest such files into data systems opens up many opportunities for data analysis and processing.

Current automatic wrappers using DOM tree and visual properties of data records to extract the required information from the deep web generally have limitations such as the inability to check the similarity of tree structures accurately. Our study shows that data records located in the deep web do not only share similar visual properties and tree ...
