Validation issues in educational data mining:the case of HTML-Tutor and iHelp [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Validation is one of the key aspects in data mining and even more so in educational data mining (EDM) owing to the nature of the data. In this chapter, a brief overview of validation in the context of EDM is given and a case study is presented. The field

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Reconstruction of the complete mitogenomes of predator and prey from a faecal metagenomic dataset

open access: yesData in Brief
The application of faecal DNA in genetic studies of wild populations minimises disturbances to their normal behaviours and body integrity. Here, I present an analysis of a metagenomic dataset generated from the faecal DNA of several specimens of the ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Big Data Analytics: A Brief Survey [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Trend in Scientific Research and Development, 2018
In recent days, the size of the informations generated from modern information systems and digital technologies like IoT and Cloud computing is huge ie. In TB . With this huge sized data, it is quite difficult to analysis and it is in the need of more effects at multiple levels to extract data.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Building the Learning Analytics Curriculum: Should we Teach (a Code of) Ethics? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This brief chapter explores the feasibility of teaching (a code of) ethics against a background which examines our views around data scientists, data analysis, data and, in particular, student data. It touches upon different approaches to ethics and asks
