Identification and characterization of a gene conferring stress resistance in Escherichia coli and cyanobacteria

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Functional screening identified PcSyn14890, a cyanobacteria‐specific protein that enhances growth and stress resistance in E. coli and Synechocystis PCC6803. Although we expected it to function as a molecular chaperone, it was unable to protect against thermal aggregation of GAPDH.

TRPML1 agonist ML‐SA5 attenuates pulmonary fibroblast activation by suppressing mTOR and restoring autophagic flux

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TGF‐β1 stimulation downregulates lysosomal channel TRPML1 in pulmonary fibroblasts. The TRPML1 agonist ML‐SA5 suppressed fibroblast‐to‐myofibroblast activation and collagen production. Mechanistically, ML‐SA5 inhibited mTOR phosphorylation, restored autophagic flux, and its effects were enhanced by rapamycin (mTOR inhibitor) and reversed by MHY1485 ...

Feature wise normalization: An effective way of normalizing data

Pattern Recognition, 2022
Abstract This paper presents a novel Feature Wise Normalization approach for the effective normalization of data. In this approach, each feature is normalized independently with one of the methods from the pool of normalization methods. It is in contrast to the conventional approach which normalizes the data with one method only and as a result ...

Normalizing Data

2022
This chapter reviews the author’s experience of being a participant in psychological experiments, which determines how, with such an obstreperous subject, researchers get results. Being able to disregard erratic responses depends on having enough subjects, as the more subjects there are, the easier it is to designate some responses as unusable and ...

Evolvable warps for data normalization

2016 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC), 2016
The traditional method of fitting an approximate cumulative probability distribution to a data set is to bin the data in narrow bins and obtain a step function approximation. This technique suffices for many applications, but the resulting object is not a differentiable function making recovery of the underlying probability distribution function ...

Normalizing and Integrating Metabolomics Data

Analytical Chemistry, 2012
Metabolomics research often requires the use of multiple analytical platforms, batches of samples, and laboratories, any of which can introduce a component of unwanted variation. In addition, every experiment is subject to within-platform and other experimental variation, which often includes unwanted biological variation.

Self‐normalization for Spatial Data

Scandinavian Journal of Statistics, 2013
ABSTRACTThis paper considers inference for both spatial lattice data with possibly irregularly shaped sampling region and non‐lattice data, by extending the recently proposed self‐normalization (SN) approach from stationary time series to the spatial setup.

Procedure to Normalize Data for Benchmarking

Respiratory Care, 2006
The hospital billing system is usually the source for reporting activity counts used in benchmarking efforts. Because billing is associated with a specific procedure, benchmarking data are often reported as procedure-days, procedure-shifts, or procedure-hours.

Microarray data normalization and transformation

Nature Genetics, 2002
Underlying every microarray experiment is an experimental question that one would like to address. Finding a useful and satisfactory answer relies on careful experimental design and the use of a variety of data-mining tools to explore the relationships between genes or reveal patterns of expression.

Correctness Criteria for Normalization of Semistructured Data

19th Australian Conference on Software Engineering (aswec 2008), 2008
The rapid increase in semistructured data usage has lead to the development of various database systems for semistructured data. Web services and applications that utilize large amounts of semistructured data require data to remain consistent and be stored efficient.
