Social context prevents heat hormetic effects against mutagens during fish development

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows that sublethal heat stress protects fish embryos against ultraviolet radiation, a concept known as ‘hormesis’. However, chemical stress transmission between fish embryos negates this protective effect. By providing evidence for the mechanistic molecular basis of heat stress hormesis and interindividual stress communication, this study ...

Visualization of meteorological data

open access: yes2014 37th International Convention on Information and Communication Technology, Electronics and Microelectronics (MIPRO), 2014
This paper is focused on the methods used to visualize meteorological factors based on the given data. Properties of the factors for which the data can be gathered were described and the methods of visualizing those properties have been examined. The program solution is centered around interaction with the weather data. The data itself is based on real

Interaction vesicles as emerging mediators of host‐pathogen molecular crosstalk and their implications for infection dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interaction extracellular vesicles (iEVs) are hybrid vesicles formed through host‐pathogen communication. They facilitate immune evasion, transfer pathogens' molecules, increase host cell uptake, and enhance virulence. This Perspective article illustrates the multifunctional roles of iEVs and highlights their emerging relevance in infection dynamics ...

Monte Carlo simulation of the resolution volume for the SEQUOIA spectrometer

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2015
Monte Carlo ray tracing simulations, of direct geometry spectrometers, have been particularly useful in instrument design and characterization. However, these tools can also be useful for experiment planning and analysis.

Modifications in FLAP's second cytosolic loop influence 5‐LOX interaction, inhibitor binding, and leukotriene formation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The enzyme 5‐lipoxygenase (5‐LOX) catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes (LTs) involved in inflammatory pathophysiology. After cellular stimulation, 5‐LOX translocates to the nucleus, interacting with the 5‐LOX‐activating protein (FLAP) to form LTA4 from arachidonic acid (AA).

Feature-Based Dataset Fingerprinting for Clustered Federated Learning on Medical Image Data

open access: yesApplied Artificial Intelligence
Federated Learning (FL) allows multiple clients to train a common model without sharing their private training data. In practice, federated optimization struggles with sub-optimal model utility because data is not independent and identically distributed (
