A multi-objective evolutionary algorithm for detecting protein complexes in PPI networks using gene ontology

open access: yesScientific Reports
Detecting protein complexes is crucial in computational biology for understanding cellular mechanisms and facilitating drug discovery. Evolutionary algorithms (EAs) have proven effective in uncovering protein complexes within networks of protein–protein ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Outpatient Tinnitus Clinic, Self-Help Web Platform, or Mobile Application to Recruit Tinnitus Study Samples?

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2017
For understanding the heterogeneity of tinnitus, large samples are required. However, investigations on how samples recruited by different methods differ from each other are lacking.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Algebraic and Geometric Characterizations of Double-Cross Matrices of Polylines

open access: yesISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information, 2016
We study the double-cross matrix descriptions of polylines in the two-dimensional plane. The double-cross matrix is a qualitative description of polylines in which exact, quantitative information is given up in favour of directional information.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

SEMANTIC SEARCH BASED ON NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING – A NUMISMATIC EXAMPLE

open access: yesJournal of Ancient History and Archaeology, 2018
Iconographic representations on ancient artifacts are described in many existing databases and literature as human readable text. We applied Natural Language Processing (NLP) approaches in order to extract the semantics out of these textual descriptions ...

Experiment Databases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Inductive databases are usually viewed as databases that contain models, next to data, such that mining the data essentially boils down to querying them for models. This unifies data mining with database querying. In his chapter, we consider experiment databases.

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

CONDA-PM—A Systematic Review and Framework for Concept Drift Analysis in Process Mining

open access: yesAlgorithms, 2020
Business processes evolve over time to adapt to changing business environments. This requires continuous monitoring of business processes to gain insights into whether they conform to the intended design or deviate from it.
