Beyond Starch: Towards a Scalable Potato Platform for Molecular Farming
Re‐engineering potato as a biosafe and host‐optimised platform for plant molecular farming by integrating intrinsic biological traits with targeted engineering strategies. ABSTRACT Thirty‐five years after the first recombinant protein was produced in potato and 30 years after clinical trials of edible vaccines from its tubers, the crop is being ...

Purification and characterisation of carrot (Daucus carota L) pectinesterase
AbstractA pectinesterase isoform with an alkaline isoelectric point of over 8.66 was detected in crude extracts of carrot. The enzyme was purified by ion exchange and molecular exclusion chromatography. The molecular weight of the isoform was 25 kDa, determined in native conditions by filtration through Sephadex G‐75 SF.

The influence of processing on polyacetylenes in carrots (Daucus carota L.)
Related with possible evolutionary connections between the different populations of wild and cultivated carrot (Daucus carota L. ssp. Carota and ssp. Sativa/ Hoffm./ Aro.), mericarp and seedling variability by two different groups of wild carrot populations collected in Transylvania (Eastern Europe) and Germany (Central Europe) have been studied.

Does origin always matter? Evaluating the influence of nonlocal seed provenances for ecological restoration purposes in a widespread and outcrossing plant species [PDF]
For restoration purposes, nature conservation generally enforces the use of local seed material based on the local-is-best (LIB) approach. However, in some cases recommendations to refrain from this approach have been made.

Genome Editing in Root and Tuber Crop Development in Sub‐Saharan Africa
ABSTRACT Precision genome editing, particularly using Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR‐associated protein 9 (Cas9), is advancing crop improvement by enabling targeted and efficient genetic modifications. Root and tuber crops such as potato, cassava, sweet potato, and yam are vital for global food and nutritional

Biting or irritating insects are a threat to the health and welfare of grazing animals. This systematic review reveals that several shrubs and bushes growing in the alpine area have insecticidal, insect‐repellent and/or attractant properties. The alder Alnus glutinosa, juniper Juniperus communis, spruce Picea abies and walnut Juglans regia are ...
