Simplified daylighting energy savings for non-daylighting building energy simulation programs

Energy and Buildings, 1984
Abstract The California Legislature mandated the California Energy Commission (CEC) to establish and periodically update energy efficiency standards for new buildings. To this end, a sensitivity analysis was conducted by the Standards Development Office of the California Energy Commission for nonresidential buildings.

Daylight simulators and colour vision tests

Ophthalmic and Physiological Optics, 1998
SummaryOur previous studies have shown that the influence of the illuminating source used for colour vision examination on the intended function of the test is very test dependant, some being relatively unaffected by source characteristics while others can be significantly affected.

Color scales in simulated daylight

Color Research & Application, 1981
AbstractThe pigmentation plan used for production of the color cards made available by the Optical Society of America (OSA) for its Committee on Uniform Color Scales (UCS) was designed in such a manner that the color scales should, within the production tolerances, appear uniform in all phases of daylight.

Indoor Daylight Simulation Using Radiosity Method

2011 Workshop on Digital Media and Digital Content Management, 2011
This paper presents a method for simulating daylight illuminance of indoor scenes with astronomical calculation and computer graphics rendering. The rendered phenomena look like real sunlight streaming into an interior through an outside window. At first, users interactively input date, location of the observed room, and turbidity of atmosphere.

Comparative Evaluation of Daylighting Simulation Programs

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2016
Daylighting simulation programs use different methods and algorithms for illuminance calculations in buildings. It is widely known that results of different lighting simulation programs does not have to be the same for two or more identical rooms. Hence CIE issued Technical Report 171: 2006 which presents test cases to assess the accuracy of lighting ...

Daylight simulation with photon maps

2005
Physically based image synthesis remains one of the most demanding tasks in the computer graphics field, whose applications have evolved along with the techniques in recent years, particularly with the decline in cost of powerful computing hardware. Physically based rendering is essentially a niche since it goes beyond the photorealistic look required ...

Dynamic daylight simulations: Impact of weather file’s choice

Solar Energy, 2015
Abstract This paper is the second step of a research project aimed at investigating the impact of the use of different weather data files on daylight simulations’ results. Simulations were carried out for a simple standalone office using three weather files (IWEC, Meteonorm and Satel-Light) for two European locations (Copenhagen and Rome); moreover ...

Glass Filters for Simulating Daylight in Sensitometric Exposure

Applied Optics, 1968
Two glass filters for the sensitometric exposure of daylight films are described. The filters are each made of four glass color filters. The thickness of the four glasses is chosen to match two types of relative energy distributions of sensitometric daylight with a tungsten lamp operated at 2850 degrees K.

Daylight prediction: an evaluation of daylighting simulation software for four cases

2015
The use of daylighting to supplement and offset artificial lighting requirements in interior spaces is an important step in achieving California?s current and future energy goals. The analysis of daylighting is not only difficult for lighting designers, but also the results are not always accurate.

Evaluation of daylight simulators. Part 2; Assessment of the quality of daylight simulators using actual metameric pairs†

Coloration Technology, 2003
This paper discusses two methods for evaluating the quality of daylight simulators, namely the band‐value method specified in British standard BS 950 and the CIE metamerism index method. Six daylight simulators of various types and manufacturers were used for the assessment and a psychophysical experiment was conducted to evaluate the two methods.
