Novel Sulfur‐Rich Polymers from Inverse Vulcanization as Functional Building Blocks for Photonics

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Isopropenyl aromatic comonomers, in particular novel 2,7‐diisopropenylfluorene and 2,8‐diisopropenyldibenzothiophene, synthesized by sustainable, facile, single‐step SMCCR from available brominated substrates are exploited in the Inverse Vulcanization process to obtain functional Sulfur‐rich macromolecular materials.

Transforming Fabry-Perot resonances into a Tamm mode

open access: yes, 2012
We propose a novel photonic structure composed of metal nanolayer, Bragg mirror and metal nanolayer. The structure supports resonances that are transitional between Fabry-Perot and Tamm modes.

Mechanistic Insights of Support Dynamics During Reactive Metal‐Support Interaction

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
This study uses in situ environmental scanning transmission electron microscopy to investigate the reduction of PdO nanoparticles on ZnO and the formation of intermetallic ZnPd. Hydrogen spillover activates the ZnO support, inducing encapsulation and Zn reduction.

Dispersion‐Enhanced Nitrogen‐Centered Photocatalysis of the Direct Hydrogen Atom Transfer

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 6, 2 February 2026.
Nitrogen‐centered acridine photocatalysts for direct hydrogen atom transfer have been developed, leveraging dispersion interactions to enhance photocatalytic activity. This approach enables diverse functionalization reactions of strong C─H bonds even under cryogenic conditions and provides a new strategy for boosting the efficiency of direct HAT ...

Optically pumped GaN-based vertical cavity surface emitting laser with strain-compensated AlGaN/InGaN distributed Bragg reflector

open access: yesApplied Physics Express
We proposed a strain-compensated distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) with high reflectivity and a practical growth time. The DBR consists of AlGaN/GaN multilayer as the low refractive index layer and InGaN as the high refractive index layer.

Saturated flow boiling in small- to micro- diameter metallic tubes: Experimental results and modeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Some results of a long-term study of flow boiling patterns, heat transfer rates and pressure drop of R134a at pressures of 6-14 bar in five vertical stainless steel tubes of internal diameter 4.26, 2.88, 2.01, 1.1 and 0.52 mm are presented in this paper.

Efficient single frequency fibre lasers using novel photosensitive Er/Yb optical fibres

open access: yes, 1997
Boron- and germanium-doped highly photosensitive cladding is used in a novel design to achieve photosensitive Er/Yb-doped fibers, permitting short, strong gratings (length ~1cm, reflectivity >99%) to be written without hydrogenation.

Optical properties of DBR-lasers.

open access: yesThe Review of Laser Engineering, 1989
We have fabricated the InGaAsP/InP DBR-lasers with the wavelength range of 1.5μm, and investigated their optoelectronic properties. High sub-mode suppression ratios of exceeding 35 dB, and very narrow spectral linewidths less than 10 MHz were obtained. Wavelengthtuning was performed by an injection of tuning current in Bragg reflector region.

Suitable habitat of Himalayan wolf in Upper Mustang, Annapurna Conservation Area, Nepal

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Decades ago, the Himalayan wolf Canis lupus chanco, a genetically distinct sub‐species of the gray wolf Canis lupus, faced persecution by local communities in the Nepalese Himalayas. Recently, wolf populations have returned and recolonized, sparking concerns about conflicts over livestock depredation, and emphasizing the urgent need for comprehensive ...

animal2vec and MeerKAT: A self‐supervised transformer for rare‐event raw audio input and a large‐scale reference dataset for bioacoustics

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Bioacoustic research, vital for promoting conservation and understanding animal behaviour and ecology, faces a monumental challenge: analysing vast datasets where animal vocalizations are rare. While deep learning techniques are becoming standard, adapting them to bioacoustics remains difficult.
